https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mastermind_(board_game)It came out in 1970, I had it around '73 in college, one of those things you play in the coffee shop.
at that time, I was playing chess, and the game kept the brain cells sharp. Later I switched to Go.

(36,562 posts)I hadn't played it in years then I got the app. It's still fun, but I'm not as lucky as I used to be.

(60,010 posts)My mental picture is that it is a wooden board like Cribbage, but at the rate my brain cells are dying off from old age, I could be wrong.
An app, you say?

(36,562 posts)My Mastermind must have been newer since it was plastic. I got rid of it years ago, but I did keep my Spirograph.

(16,393 posts)It simply uses letters instead of numbers. It was the first thing I thought about. Still, I'm hooked.

(60,010 posts)I play Boggle all the time, online, single player. It's an easy brain scratch-er.
Strangely enuff, don't like crossword puzzles.
Wordle looks to be equally fun and irritating, will try it for awhile.

(16,393 posts)But finally got it on the fourth try. In my defense, I hadn't had coffee yet.

(15,201 posts)My husband used to play it with our two kids. Only ours has FIVE peg spots instead of just four.
Plus, hubby had an additional option for the colored pegs - a blank! Our older daughter loved this game (now she has a PhD in Physical Chemistry - good brain!) and I remember the first time he used the blank and she was confused. "Daddy, you're tricking me!" she said. And she was right!
We also used to play poker with the kids, but that's a different story.
