Anyone flown lately?

I am going on my first flight since covid this week from Medford OR to San Antonio. It will be smaller plane, smaller airport. Flying Delta with layover change of planes in Salt Lake City.

I am nervous about getting sick, not so much covid but a cold or flu. I seem to catch things easy.

Between the flights, eating out, motel in Austin, ceremony why I am going there and Spurs game, lots of opportunity for germs.

I plan to wear a mask but wondering if people will bug me for wearing one? Especially in Texas.

I saw a pic of my daughter and family at Spurs game few days ago, no one had mask on.

1. Try to keep the mask on at all times

You will have to remove it for ten or twenty seconds at the checkpoint so they can check your identity.

Only fools aren't masking when cases are rising.

Many people mask so you'll have company.

If you want to wear a mask then you absolutely should, but be aware you will be in a tiny minority.

The vast majority of people traveling on planes these days are not wearing them.

I’ve been double vaxxed, double boosted and boosted again (5 shots total since I was first able to get one) and I’m really not too worried about getting sick.

Having said that, I spent 3 weeks driving in Alaska where the warmest it got was about 30 degrees and I was perfectly fine…till the last day! Now I’ve got the first cold I’ve had in a couple years.

Just keep in mind that the aircraft you’ll be flying on have air exchange systems that are very efficient. Also if you haven’t already done so, pick your seat on an aisle for each leg and if you can spare the 30 or 40 bucks, pick a “Premium” seat that will get you closer to the front of the plane and again, on an aisle.

I flew into Medford last year. It’s a gorgeous little town.

Be safe and don’t worry, you’ll be fine.

If anyone says anything about you wearing a mask, just smile underneath it and say something like “I’m so flattered you are concerned about my well being, but I have a condition that makes me very susceptible to infections..,or something like that.

OR…you could say “it’s absolutely none of your concern so you can fuck right the hell off!”

Whichever approach suits you!

7. I've flown several times this year, and I always wear a mask. No one says anything.

I choose a window seat because it gets me away from other people as they board. If possible, wait until most people have left the plane so you won’t be crammed close together as you deplane.

8. I flew in and out of Texas several times in July/August with not one comment on my masking

Friend and I were almost the only ones with masks on in airports and multiple flights from NC to TX to UT and back but we didn't hear one comment about our masks and we didn't catch Covid. Conditions were extremely crowded so we were so glad to have our masks. We only briefly pulled our masks off just long enough stay hydrated and have coffee and snacks.

However, this past couple of weeks spouse and I let our guard down having been boosted and hearing that Covid was extremely low in our area and we both got Covid. We went to stores and ate out once without masks (the only time we have eaten indoors since beginning of Covid in March 2020) where we were talking closely around others. As soon as our home tests were positive we called our Dr who sent in Paxlovid prescriptions which has helped us quickly so symptoms eased after a couple of days. Primary symptoms were sinus congestion, aches and pains, sore throat for me and coughing and slight shortness of breath for spouse with low grade fever.

Friends have told me this week that lots more are wearing masks in my area of NC at stores and church activities due to uptick of illnesses since Thanksgiving.

Very few people masking. Which is basically how it's been since the mandate ended on planes earlier this year.

Flew roundtrip from New York City to Los Angeles. Most people on planes and in airports not wearing masks. I wore a mask on the plane (have underlying issues) and no one said anything.

I have a aisle seat about mid way. I always carry small packs of wet wipes to wipe off my area too, did this even before covid.
