Just for giggles, google "military orders s. claus back to active duty".

The marine and navy ones are hilarious. My pos won't let me copy and paste, or I would.

A friend read ne the marine one earlier, but it is even funnier in print (especially if you know military acronyms).

Just a little humour for today.

I was telling my friend about how the whole NORAD Santa tracker thing came about. . all from a misprint in an ad in the local paper.

on the NPR webpage, you can read it.

I would post it here, but my pos computer will not let me link or copy and paste.

NORAD Santa tracker on wiki has some very good information. And, of course, the official tracking site www.noradsanta.org.

It boggles the mind that the hotline was on the regular telephone exchange, though. You'd think it would have had a dedicated (and shielded!) line, not one that could be reached by just anybody dialing the number.

US Navy Recalls Adm. Santa Claus to Active Duty

By Dario Leone
Dec 25 2019

A reservist, with 1,742 years of service, Adm. Santa Claus specializes in vertical delivery of high-value items.

The Department of the Navy issued orders on Dec. 17, 2019 to Adm. Santa Claus, recalling him to active duty, with a report date of Dec. 24. A reservist, with 1,742 years of service, this Naval Aviator specializes in vertical delivery of high-value items. He is carrier flight deck qualified. He is also a Public Affairs Officer.

Also recalled, were Lt. Cmdr. Dasher, Master Chief Dancer, Senior Chief Prancer, Lt. Vixen, Cmdr. Comet, Lt. Cmdr. Cupid, AW1 Donner, and AW1 Blitzen, Individual Augmentees from the Naval Reserve. Ensign Rudolph is also authorized to report for duty; however, he must first successfully complete Carrier Qual training, which he has failed three times.

Although the above Sailors are on orders for only 24 hours, it is anticipated that they will submit a travel claim for 24,901 miles at .56/mile, using a POV. Suitable government transportation is not available.

As a special operations unit, each member is granted a high level of uniform flexibility, as well as relaxed grooming standards. Per diem is authorized and has been modified to include large quantities of hot cocoa and cookies.
