she startled the hell out of me by leaping onto my shoulder when I was cooking. I was going to do laundry after cooking so I pulled the hamper into the kitchen for the cat to sit on while she watched me in order to keep her off the counter.

Suddenly she was on my shoulder with a thud. Nowhere near 12 pounds (not even today at age 7), but when she landed it felt like she weighed more than just a few pounds.
