that reflect personal hygiene in a ridiculous way. The teeth on quite a few bad guys in old westerns or other dramas have very perfect, very white teeth. Not realistic. Also when people who have been in circumstances where they have been without access to soap and water in arduous situations, have clean, shiny hair. In Dances with Wolves, actress Mary McDonnell bucked this typical portrayal. When she is dragged on the ground by her arm, you can see that her underarm is unshaved. Pretty sure in real life that would have been fact.
