The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest, darkest night of the year. Also known as the December solstice, the astronomical occurrence happens due to Earth's tilted axis of rotation in relation to the sun.

Some years back I noticed that even though the days keep getting shorter till 12-21 that it's in the morning staying darker.

Here in NYC the earliest the sun sets is 4:28P (12-8). Stays like that while the sun keeps rising later.
It already started setting later again - Wendsday will be
4:31P. 🌞 👍

What a week this has been already. Sunlight lots of places that haven't seen it in a long time.
