This is a follow up on a OP by Emile about Mitchums marijuana bust in 1948 from the cannabis forum. This is just a faded copy I could find. The original is in our family archive

(7,543 posts)Glad you followed up with the picture. He was an iconic actor. Don't know of another one like him.

(31,147 posts)1943 movie, at the bottom of the credits, was outlaw Bob Mitchum. He just played a small part. Outlaws sidekick. They were showing the movies in order in the next one he was also called Bob Mitchum in credits but he had a bigger part. By the third one he was more or less the guest star as slick gambler. I dont think he played those roles or went under the name of Bob Mitchum again after that. Out of the Past and His Kind of Woman are two of my favorites of his.

(7,543 posts)One of my favorite film noirs and I think one of Mitchum's best performances.

(1,654 posts)I think it's the only movie he starred in where I hated him. One of his last appearances I watched him in was the epic Winds of War TV miniseries. He was so believable in most of his roles.

(7,755 posts)Robert DeNiro's later portrayal. What a great actor. Even if he was a big time Republican.
Peregrine Took
(7,418 posts)over the top in many scenes although the one giving advice to Juliette Lewis in the school was clever.

(6,233 posts)I also have a long history with photography.
I took an elective photography course in 1963.
I bought my first 35 mm film camera in 1967 in the USAF Base BX.
I took all the family photos for years. Explaining why I'm not in many of those photos.
I bought my first Canon digital 35mm camera circa 2000.
I graduated to a Canon EOS 30D with all the whistles and bells when I was in my mid-fifties.
I then got my first good cell phone with a digital camera.
I gave all my "heavy" Canon equipment to a young wildlife photographer. Who does all the "work" and sends me some photos of new "captures."
Now in my mid-seventies, I show up in photos because of selfies and a built-in timer.

(31,147 posts)I was hooked on Leicas for film cameras for a long time For years Ive been using a canon EOS D7 I have a 400 mm f5.6 lens. I shot sports a lot for the newspaper, as a staff photographer I shot everything. Now retired, I like taking bird pictures. My earliest recollections are of darkrooms. I see someone working in a darkroom in an old movie or something, and I can still smell the chemicals

(6,233 posts).... a recognized state bird expert. So I get to see photos of rare birds in our region of the country quite frequently.
I worked for a newspaper when I was a kid. My dad worked in the composing room running a linotype and retired as a vocational printing instructor in the state prison system.
He passed away in 1999, and to this day, Christmas 2022, I get a card from one of the prisoners who never forgot my dad and credits, my dad with turning his life around.
This is why I start my day with DU because I never know what post will lead me down an unexpected path to tell some life stories.
Thanks, Walleye, for starting my adventure today.
