Oops, I misread the title.

(54,256 posts)We were passing an Italian restaurant in the North End of Boston.
On a chalkboard they advertised "Fresh Cannolis".
I said to my daughter "Leave the gun, take the cannolis."
I got a blank stare.
She's 44.
Never seen "The Godfather".
Never seen "Gone With The Wind" or "Casablanca".
Evidently her generation doesn't watch 'old' classics.
Too much available on netflix and other streaming 'new stuff'.
More's the pity.
They're missing a lot.

(8,747 posts)Both are examples of epic film-making. They are certainly worlds better than what passes for "movies" these days. Which is car chases, gun-fights, fist-fights, explosions and CGI.
Of course if you don't like epics, then YMMV.
I recommend that you at least get The Godfather and The Godfather II, and watch then back to back. Godfather III, OTOH is not so hot.

(20,228 posts)that show old movies. We had one in Houston, but once cable came along and videos, it was sold to Landmark and now it shows independent films. They still have midnight movies though. They alternate between Rocky Horror Picture Show (!) and classic good films and classic bad films.
Maybe she's just not that into movies. I can't imagine a serious film buff wouldn't watch older films.

(1,136 posts)but not Casablanca. Well, in bits and pieces, but never all. I need to remedy that.
I spent one Christmas day all alone in North Carolina (family in Virginia, had to work Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas) watching all 3 GF's back to back. Wasn't a bad way to spend the day!

(81,546 posts)All weekend. I think it was one of the holiday weekends this year. Kept rerunning "Godfather 1" & "Godfather 2" again and again! Occasionally "Godfather 3" - I think they actually finished up the marathon with that one.
Heavenly! Some of the best lines in filmdom! Amazing cast. Stunning everything. And all those glorious vintage cars - SHEESH...

(20,228 posts)Michael: My father is no different than any powerful man, any man with power, like a president or senator.
Kay Adams: Do you know how naive you sound, Michael? Presidents and senators don't have men killed.
Michael: Oh. Who's being naive, Kay?
Calo: In Sicily, women are more dangerous than shotguns.

Luca Brasi: Don Corleone, I am honored and grateful that you have invited me to your home on the wedding day of your daughter. And may their first child be a masculine child.
[then, starting over]

I tried that joke on blogslut jr. And then (natch) I had to explain it to her. Funny thing is, I've never seen "The Godfather" either. It was by choice. My parents were nuts about the book and the film and would have totally taken me to see it. But I wanted to see "Cabaret" - which I did. Still not sorry 33 years later.
