(29,414 posts)and I've seen an attempt to bring that up in the Lounge as a mock-able topic. Best to stay away, unless you want genuine information beyond what you're likely to find in the top hits on Google (most of those come from tumblr.)

I'm lamenting the demise of Al Jazeera America and there is a vocal handful that will jump into any thread they can to tell you just how heinous AJM is because of their owners. I strongly suspect they've never sat down and watched hours of their investigative reports

I have no idea about dish.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)it appears I can only get Euronews if I buy an international package, and I'm not going to do that just to get one channel. I'll be very happy when they finally let us buy a la carte, instead of paying for things we're not ever going to watch.
We do seem to have some Chinese news channel in English called CCTV.
Thanks for looking anyway

(21,046 posts)Because we are all supposed to be living in big cities where we can shop for cruelty-free super-vegan whatever at other stores.
And live where we got instantly on-time subways and buses.
Sure, I can shop at Costco or Whole Foods, but I'll have to drive 150 miles one way. That's not real practical. And all these other chains that people mention that they shop at for groceries? We don't have them here. They are NOT all over the country.
kentauros
(29,414 posts)That's only for Latte Liberals
Yeah, it's also too bad the rest of the country (i.e., the NE, PNW, and California) doesn't have either HEB/Central Market or Fiesta. They don't know what they're missing!
Manifestor_of_Light
(21,046 posts)And I'm about 70 miles away from the nearest Starbucks, so I guess I'm not a latte liberal. I've seen the Trader Joe's across from the Whole Foods on Voss, which moved into the old Randall's at Voss and Woodway. I have not been in either the new Whole Foods or the Trader Joe's.
We have a small crummy HEB in Crockett. Not a big good one. And we have a small crummy Kroger in Palestine. And Brookshire's in Palestine. Not a whole lot of choice.
My problem is that when I lived in Houston I went to the humongous Kroger at Wirt and Westview, which had acres of stuff. I got spoiled. As in "I can buy egg drop soup mix or fried rice mix or alfalfa sprouts whenever I want."
