* Him because he got the Oscar over Peter O'TOOLE (Mockingbird vs Lawrence).
Yeah yeah, I always knew Greg was a Sterling Lib.
* Her because my impression was that she was affected and snobbish. I had *no* idea what her life story was.
Anyway, on the public domain movie channels I've gotten to see them and I'll just say wow. This in no way modifies my opinion of Peter O'TOOLE.
Cranial gastritis. Was thinking of Katherine.

(2,985 posts)Rooster Cogburn, then re-read your post after I posted. Crap. I hate getting older.
Haven't viewed many of Audrey's work, but the couple I've seen, I mean, wow. She was quite the looker.

(3,818 posts)The Man in the Grey Flannel Suit? I really liked him in that. I LOVE Peter O'Toole and Audrey Hepburn also. All three are very gifted actors.

(37,375 posts)sweetheart. Totally.
Well, later on I was prejudiced against her because she got the Fair Lady role over Julie. Rex HARRISON's acceptance speech ("Well, *TWO* fair ladies" was the most gracious ever.

(5,794 posts)1962 - loses to Peck for TKAM. Also in contention was Burt Lancaster for Birdman of Alcatraz.
1964 - Loses in one of the toughest years ever. He and Richard Burton are both nominated for Beckett. Also losing are Anthony Quinn for Zorba and Peter Sellers for Dr. Strangelove. Rex Harrison wins for My Fair Lady.
1968 - O'Toole's performance in The Lion in Winter is easily better than Alan Arkin in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. Ron Moody in Oliver, and Alan Bates in The Fixer. But he loses to Cliff Robertson for Charley
1969 - O'Toole never has a chance to win for Goodbye Mr. Chips, as the fix is in for John Wayne
1972 - O'Toole's role in The Ruling Class competes with Marlon Brando as Don Corleone
1980 - O'Toole in The Stunt Man loses to Robert DeNiro in Raging Bull
1982 - Another tough year: O'Toole in My Favorite Year; Paul Newman in The Verdict; Dustin Hoffman in Tootsie; Jack Lemmon in Missing; and they all lose to Ben Kingsley for Gandhi

(5,794 posts)Realistically (since Burton had the title role) O'Toole would have been relegated to Best Supporting Actor.
However...Best Supporting Actor was no walk in the park in 1965
PETER USTINOV Topkapi (winner)
JOHN GIELGUD Becket
STANLEY HOLLOWAY My Fair Lady
EDMOND O'BRIEN Seven Days in May
LEE TRACY The Best Man
My guess is that O'Toole would have gotten the Lee Tracy spot, and probably would have beaten Ustinov...but that's not a sure thing.

(5,794 posts)George C. Scott reprised Patton in something that technically wasn't a sequel (but sorta was).
You are right. it's rare.
