Best Bumble Bees

For the last few weeks, in the late afternoon, I have sat out on my covered porch watching the bumblebees among the coleus in my planters. This afternoon, as the blooms are fading and with a cloud cover offering less harsh light than late afternoon sun, I decided to get my camera to see if I could get any good shots. These two are my best out of about 50. These bees are quick!

This second shot has the house next door in the background and the orange bokeh comes from the blanket flowers I have planted in the upper level of my courtyard.

Insects do move fast and it's tricky to capture them before they do.

Well done! And thank you for sharing.

I have to say you inspired me with your bee entry in the contest. I've been watching these bumblebees since the coleus started flowering in late summer. I've been too lazy to get my camera out and see what I could capture. Plus, it's been hot and quite sunny in the late afternoon there when the bees are attracted to the coleus, which sits in shade most of the day. Not the best light --too bright --when the most bees have been working the flowers. Today was perfect.

are outstanding. I especially enjoy these close-ups of insects and these are wonderful. Plus you changed my gardening habit of pinching off coleus flowers--had no idea they were date bait for bees! So thanks on two levels--swell pictures and gardening tip!
