I went to a couple of Star Trek conventions in 1976-77 when I was stationed in San Antonio with the Air Force nurse corps. One in Houston, one in New Orleans.

At one of them, I got my picture taken with Jimmy Doohan. I still have the snapshot somewhere.

There was a small store in San Antonio that sold Star Trek memorabilia. The little shop was called Star Base 1. In the pediatric clinic, we were allowed to wear non-standard items on our lab coats to lighten the mood for the kids. I got a science officer patch and sewed it to my blue lab coat.

I was in one of the elevators of the main hospital one day, and someone thought the patch was a military decoration of some kind, and asked about it. I explained what it was, and was asked, “Where did you get it?” I, of course, replied, “Star Base 1,” the name of the shop, never realizing how peculiar that was going to sound. The person asking the question looked at me very strangely, and probably thought my destination should be the 4th floor of the hospital, where the in-patient psych ward was.

I've seen a few around Hawai'i and orcas in Puget Sound. I know they have purposes to their actions, but they do seem to like to perform.

a friend and I went to see the Grey wales in Baja a few years ago (oh shit it was more than 10 years!) both of us ruined our little digital cameras, but totally worth it!

I went to find the post I made on it and see that I was using photobucket back then. I wonder if I can edit it to use another site?

such a shame what they did

We've taken many trips with the Pacific Whale Foundation out of Lahaina....(before the tragedy). Although we've certainly had successful sightings, we've never gotten photos like the ones you've posted. They are majestic beings, thank you!
