Related: About this forumFinally Got My New Camera: Panasonic Lumix G3
This is one of the new generation of more light-weight DSLR's. The kit/offer I got had two lenses the 42 and the 200.
I didn't realize quite what a good deal I got until I pulled-up Amazon.
I only had time to do a few test shots, but will be taking the camera with me on my Sri Lanka trip tomorrow.
Anyone using one of these, or one of the other compact DSLR's like the Sony NEX series?

(36,827 posts)Not to quibble, but the G3 is actually a mirrorless camera. The design is really closer to a rangefinder camera as there is no optical path from the viewfinder through the lens. That's not to take anything away from it. The G3 is still a serious camera and the mirrorless design allows for smaller lenses and a more compact design because they don't have to allow for space between the lens and sensor for a mirror.

I will obviously know more about it once I have taken it out for a thorough test drive.
I am looking forward to waterfall shots in Sri Lanka with the 200 lens!

(36,827 posts)Not only that, my 70-200/2.8 lens alone outweighs and outsizes both the bodies put together. I can certainly see the attraction to a smaller and more compact setup. I think eventually that mirrorless designs will replace conventional SLRs entirely.

Enjoy Sri Lanka.
