Don’t Let Iowa Republicans Repeat the Criminal Stupidity That Let Trayvon Martin’s Murderer Walk Free
Why Voting Anywhere for Republicans Supports Trayvon’s Murder
"This isn’t just some partisan bickering, or as some will claim, exploiting a tragedy for political gain. The finger of blame points at Republicans because THEY POINTED IT AT THEMSELVES! The “Stand Your Ground” legislation isn’t just a Florida phenomenon, but is very much a bread and butter issue for the ever more crazy conservative Republican party. It is not my personal distaste with GOP politics that leads me to observe that they are behind this law, it is because they are almost universally behind this law that leads me to part of my personal distaste with GOP politics.
We have not been immune to this ridiculous push here in Iowa. In fact, a “Stand Your Ground” bill passed the Iowa House (Des Moines Register story here) this legislative session on, as you may have guessed, a party line vote. The GOP controls the House, so it passed. Thank God Democrats still hold a slim lead in the Senate, because they were able to vote it down and keep Iowa from turning into another Florida (shudder).

I ask my fellow Iowans, and voters across the nation, to consider that if in the upcoming election you vote for a Republican state lawmaker, or fail to get out and vote for a Democrat, they WILL be bringing this “Stand Your Ground” crap to where you live. The NRA and other national conservative groups have the funding and have the motivation and have the lockstep GOP lawmakers from sea to shining sea to keep pushing for these laws."
