West Indian American Day Parade Kicks Off Celebrations

The sights and sounds of the Caribbean will take over Brooklyn today, as the 46th annual West Indian American Day Parade makes its way along Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights starting at 11 a.m.

The parade draws millions of spectators with its colorful floats and costumes, as they celebrate Caribbean pride and culture.

The event caps a week-long carnival celebration in the borough.

"We always look forward to this day, you know, that all Caribbean countries can come together and celebrate as one. You know, especially, I'm from Jamaica," one person said.
