Mental illness plea for lawyer who tried to run over man - twice

A retired Whitehall Township attorney admitted Thursday in Lehigh County Court that he had stopped taking medication prescribed for mental illness when he twice tried to run over one of his neighbors with a car.

Robert Creem, 70, pleaded guilty but mentally ill to two counts of aggravated assault. He'll be sentenced in March and could serve up to 10 years in a state prison.

Creem, of Alta Drive, was first arrested following a May 31 incident near his home in the Whitehall Estates condominium complex. In that case, Creem's neighbor, Dale Stickel, was walking a neighbor's cat in the grass near the intersection of Alta Drive and Creekside Road when he saw Creem drive at him across the parking lot and 200 feet into the grass.

Deputy District Attorney Gregory Englert said Creem was traveling at 40 mph. Stickel narrowly avoided being hit by jumping out of the way, Englert said. The cat wasn't injured.
