Haddad: Why I am running for Congressional District 15

I am Roberto Haddad and I am running to be your Congressman for the 15th District of Texas.

I am running because I have a deep love for this country, a strong commitment to serve, and I feel that our country is heading down a dangerous path. The voices and forces of divisiveness are steering our national dialogue. Our politics are being poisoned, all the while, the voices of reason and compromise are being shoved aside in favor of the extremes. I will work to bridge our divides and regain the sense of community we are losing.

I truly love our great nation and importantly, I love our community. South Texas in my blood. I have grown up here and my experiences have shown me what a truly special place this is. I would be honored to serve you as your representative in Congress.

I do not have all the answers, but I do have the commitment to work as long and as hard as it takes for you. The diversity of my experience in both the public and private sector has provided me with the skills and knowledge necessary to advocate for and represent the needs for each and every one of you in Washington, D.C. As an attorney, I have worked in the federal judiciary under the Honorable Ricardo H. Hinojosa; helped found a technology start-up company; advocated for the 15th District in the Halls of Congress for Congressman Ruben Hinojosa; invested in my local community through business ventures; and most recently served as a trusted counsel for DHR Health, where I have fought for policies to increase access to healthcare for all and for millions of dollars of investment in our region.

My community has always been important to me, so in addition to my professional career, I also serve as Chair for the HOPE Family Health Center, a non-profit charitable clinic that provides integrated medical and behavioral health services to the indigent in the Rio Grande Valley, as well as on several other boards, including the Rio Grande Valley Partnership, Futuro RGV, City of McAllen Civic Center Advisory Board, and the Texas Essential Healthcare Partnerships.

This is the third candidate that has declared for the congressional seat that Rep. Vicente Gonzalez is vacating as he moves to "bluer" pastures in the adjacent 34th congressional district. In addition, progressive groups are scouring the new district to find a candidate to support.
