Jessica Cisneros takes her second shot at the king of Laredo

Jessica Cisneros is not your typical South Texas politician. In a region where Democrats range from diffident to proudly pro-life, the immigration attorney and second-time congressional candidate is unabashedly pro-choice. Where organized labor is weak and politics often in thrall to parochial business barons, she’s a union ally. Where elected Dems style themselves as Biden-style moderates, Cisneros has championed Medicare for All and the Green New Deal. Her adversaries think she’s unqualified and out-of-touch.

She thinks her time has come.

“At the very beginning, a lot of folks were very skeptical about what we were doing and the fact that I was a 26-year-old, first-time candidate [opposing] an establishment Democrat who has been in office longer than I’ve been alive,” Cisneros said. “I am just incredibly proud and so ready to finish what we started.”

For Cuellar’s defenders, to elect Cisneros would be to kill the Golden Goose.

“Jessica Cisneros will never see the inside of the Appropriations Committee room; just like every other member of ‘the squad,’ she will be sidelined,” said Colin Strother, the congressman’s former campaign hand and media bulldog. “All this money that comes home to Texas, all these roads and bridges and hospitals and courthouses and parks, all that goes away when we lose Henry Cuellar.”

Nov 2021

I have gotten at least 10 emails from the Justice Democrats on this candidate in the last two weeks These mails are sad and talk about hating "corporate democrats" and the mainstream democratic party.

I have been following the Justice Democrats and its predecessor for a while including the Sunrise movement, the "brand new congress group" and other groups created by Waleed Shahid, Cenk, Kyle Kulinksi and their ilk. I am on the Justice Democrat email list and I have even listened once or twice to the Justice Democrat podcast which is amusingly called "Just Us" democrats. The Justice Democrats emails are fun to laugh at and I love the hatred this group shows to the Democratic Party, establishment Democrats and best of all corporate democrats. The posts attacking the DCCC for raising money to elect real Democrats are really amusing.

I have issues with the concept of the Justice Democrat group wanting to take over the Democratic party and remake into their image.

The concept that the Justice Democrats want to take over the Democratic Party is a problem for me

I normally do not donate in primary contests but I may have to donate to the current office holder to keep the Justice Democrats from picking up another member.
