(4,450 posts)Vernon County is one of the prettiest parts of the state I think. In LaX now and mostly like it.

(1,485 posts)I was married there and go there many times a year. Just yesterday I caught trout and bass.
They just ripped out the sweet old rock bridge--I hope they have the sense and money to replace it with something nice.
If you go again-jump off the tall rocks into the deep pool--it is amazing and safe-done it since I was a wee one. Ignore the signs that discourage it!!
It's cool to see local stuff here on the DU.

(8,528 posts)They have many walkways across the water and at one point you can even get on a small beach beside the river. Great place for photographs and not far from the Apostle Islands (Madeleine Island). See my post below.

(5,075 posts)Amazing diversity of flora / fauna due to unique environmental conditions. Has a geological history of multiple uplifts creating a series of shorelines.
Door County is the same layer of rock (the Niagara Escarpment) that lies beneath Niagara Falls.

(8,528 posts)It costs a few bucks to get in, but it's worth it. 1-2 mile walk along, over and around a bunch of crazy-ass waterfalls where two rivers come together. Gorgeous opportunities for photographs. You'll love it.
Of course, the Apostle Islands are the piece de resistance for photographers in Wisconsin. Door County - the Green Bay peninsula - is just as lovely with its light houses and scenic opportunities.
Along the Mississippi you'll find lots of opportunities for photographs of the bluffs from Minneapolis south. Just take the Great River Highway.
In Central Wisconsin, there is Roche a Cri - a giant column of rock in the middle of a relatively flat plain. There are Native American petroglyphs at the base along with 2+ centuries of graffiti and a stairs to take you all the way to a viewing platform at the top which will let you see for a hundred miles or more on a clear day.
Get near any of the rivers like the Wolf in North East and Eastern Wisconsin, the Wisconsin River which runs from north of Wausau all the way to Prairie du Chien, the Black River which starts north of Owen, WI and flows all the way to La Crosse, the Cedar and Chippewa Rivers in North Western Wisconsin and more. Lots of photogenic sites there.
State parks and recreation trails are generally situated along or around interesting sights. You can find a state park or recreation trail here including Copper Falls as I mentioned above: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/findapark.html
