Windows 10 free upgrade to Windows 7
Should I or shouldn't I?
My computer is very old, a big Dell tower, large heavy Dell monitor, and if you want details about memory, etc., tell me where to find what you want and will send....
Windows 10 was launched Jul 29, and I think I read that I have one year to get the update, and it will be serviced for the life of Windows 10.
It supposed to be FREE. What's the catch?
Thank you.

(18,483 posts)...you could wait until July of next year and still get it for free. There's no rush.

(16,296 posts)That the good folks at MS are going to use the public as a massive Beta testing lab. In other words, release the beast and wait to hear what comes out of it and THEN fix the problems.
Knowing my past experiences with Windows and Microsoft, I kinda believe this.
By the way, I went from Vista to Windows 8.1 and want to tell you, I was ready at one point to throw the damn thing out. The learning curve was not a curve but a wall to scale. OK now, but I still experience more freeze-ups and gremlins in it than I like.

Interesting article and advice, perhaps. I certainly would wait to find out more before installing.

(92 posts)I'm afraid DU having their own server would do nothing to help that out.

I have been using 10 for at least two months now and so far my experience with it has been very positive.
