(67,782 posts)The subject made me think of this.....I learned way back during the ERA campaign days of the 1970s (living in NYC) that you do NOT call females older than 18 "girls", they're women! Only messed up a few times, and learned my lesson quickly.
I wasn't as politically involved as I am today, but never could understand why something as simple as the ERA never passed.
It was, very simply:
Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.
