Cubas bold new moves...
The Cuban government is currently pursuing bold new initiatives to combat the destructive effects of the unprecedented 50-year-old trade and economic blockade against it by the United States of America.
While the US warehouse shopping enterprise, Price-Smart, has made a controversial decision to discontinue business transactions with Cuban diplomats and other Cuban nationals in Caricom states, the Cuban government is vigorously pursuing new foreign policy and investment initiatives designed to boost diversified domestic economic development.
The multi-dimensional approaches provide for structured dialogue with the European Union (EU) as well as for accelerating the development of prosperous and sustainable socialism, according to Granma, organ of Cubas governing Communist Party.
A core dimension of these far-reaching approaches is to also finally overcome persistent consequences of Americas crippling economic blockade.
Details of the proposed new EU/Cuba relationship are still being formulated, but the Havana administration of President Raul Castro has already signalled its intention to make a reality the hitherto elusive relationship with the EU.

(42,239 posts)HAVANA A French foreign minister visited Cuba for the first time in more than 30 years Saturday, traveling to the communist-run nation at a time when it is seeking to attract more foreign investment and improve ties with the European Union.
Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said he met with President Raul Castro for an hour and half, during which the two men "talked about everything, including human rights."
Earlier Fabius met with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez to start the trip, which French officials have said is partly to promote business ties and support French companies that want to do business in Cuba.
"We want to strengthen our ties with South America and particularly with Cuba," Fabius told reporters. "Europe also wants to (strengthen ties) and from that we are going to be able to talk about economic, cultural, political and international issues."
