(43,576 posts)AMD XLNX. What can you say. Tech rally. Sad to see such listless upward drift for weeks on end. It can't end well. If it ends.

(16,001 posts)are luring in more gamblers. I fear the boom when markets crash and those gamblers are left holding empty bags.

(17,894 posts). . . . have we been watching/waiting for this?
We used to have extensive discussions about it.
Like:
Okay, so Bezos and Zuck and Musk are multi-billionaires. But isn't their wealth just based (mostly) on the "value" of the stock they hold? So if the stock of Amazon, Facebook/Meta, Tesla crashes, are they suddenly poor? How much of their wealth is "earned"? How was it earned? Where does that "value" go when the stock crashes?
I've said since the beginning -- otherwise known as when I started paying attention to SMW -- that the markets seemed to me like just a huge ponzi scheme. If you were lucky enough -- and more rarely, smart enough -- to get in on the beginning, you also had to be smart enough -- or lucky enough -- to know when to get out before the crash.
Was I wrong then?

(16,001 posts)OMG, that is like forever, lol!
For awhile, I thought it was 'fun' to watch the markets, have a few stocks that increased in value. But reading the SMW, I totally got out of everything in early 2008 prior to the housing crash.
Even though we are now in the Everything Bubble, and everything is super inflated, I never regretted getting out. Better to be years early, than a day late! Not wrong then, not wrong now.
Besides, I betcha Bezos, Zuck, and Musk have their wealth hidden in offshore accounts that they have schemed so that they can't lose. When the Everything Bubble pops, they will be fine. It will be those gamblers in the casino who have lost it all.

(17,894 posts)LOL! I had another before this one, but deleted it in late 2001/early 2002 after getting attacked by one of the Big Name posters, so this one is probably from shortly after that. Is there a way to find out? I don't know.
I do know I've been hanging around SMW since at least the earliest days of the Obama administration, because I got scolded for daring to criticize him on the choices for his transition economic team.
Of course B, Z, and M have riches tucked away safely. The rich almost always do. Except for those FRSPs. (Isn't that what we called them back in the day? "French Revolution Separation Policies"?)

I looked it up on my profile.
I'll bet DU has posters who weren't even born then . . . . .
