I doubt there is a democratic party on Earth that would survive the aftermath of enacting substantive, meaningful climate change initiatives. The level of sacrifice required would be too great and citizens would rebel, handing the country over to the opposition or to whatever authoritarian government promised to return life to "normal". Even most people who are in favor of battling climate change are viewing it as some personally painless process where the government tinkers out of sight and miraculously everything is better now.

There is no way you can undo centuries of agricultural practices, infrastructure and energy usage without massive disruption. Introducing change slowly (as we're barely doing now) is less disruptive but wholly ineffective to bring about the degree of change needed in the time left to do so.

tl:dr - Dem or Republican, we're screwed.
