http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14395942.display/[font size=3] Scotland has met a key target for renewable energy consumption, according to official figures.
Statistics published by the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change show 57.7% of Scottish electricity consumption came from renewables in 2015 - 7.7% ahead of the 50% target.
The SNP welcomed the figures and pledged to bring forward plans to go further if re-elected in May.
Deputy First Minister and SNP campaign director John Swinney said: "The SNP have long championed green energy and these new figures show the huge progress we have made - but we are determined to go even further.

(2,120 posts)The report shows most of their renewable generation is hydro and wind. Not all that much PV.
Still, quite an accomplishment.

(34,582 posts)between wind and solar we could dominate, but then people like the Koch brothers don't profit

(2,120 posts)I probably misinterpreted that, and if so, I apologize for my remark.
However, the relative sunniness between Scotland and the US is irrelevant to the issue of Scotland's renewable electricity production.
I'll go back in my room now.

(34,582 posts)To a bubble headed bleach blonde on Fox News. Someone brought up how much solar Germany was generating, and she said "but they are sunnier than we are". It was a blatantly silly thing to say, and was the talk around hear for a little bit. Sorry for the confusion.

(21,088 posts)Wind generated about 35% of their electricity consumption, and hydro produced 15%. PV was less about 0.5%
Wind generation increased about 20% from 2014 to 2015.
Nuclear generates about 35% of their electricity, and fossil fuels about 32% (Scotland exports about 16% of its electricity)
They're doing well.

(2,120 posts)Title says "Energy Consumption" when they really meant "electricity" generation and consumption. When I saw "Energy Consumption" in the title I really perked up, then learned it was just typical sloppy technical "journalism" as I have come to expect. I'm glad the OP caught the original article's title error and noted it.
Anyway, it was a very detailed report and shows great progress toward their goals.
