An online petition urging world leader to pressure Israel to lift its blockade over the Gaza strip has garnered over 500,000 signatures in one day.
The petition, launched on Wednesday by the online activist group Avaaz and supported by 30 other groups, including Oxfam and ActionAid, calls for an immediate removal of construction material from the list of items restricted from entering the Strip.
The petitions notes that world leaders have pledged $3.5 billion for the reconstruction of the Strip, devastated by the war with Israel in the summer of 2014, but accused Israel of causing "incalculable delays" by restricting building materials' entry into
the Strip.
"Not one of the 19,000 homes destroyed in Gaza has been rebuilt in the last year. As concerned citizens, we urge you to take action to press for an end to these restrictions now," the petition reads.

(26,060 posts)Funny how they they just go after Israel but Egypt is an innocent little kitten in the problems of gaza. It's why I never take these online bulllshit petitions seriously. They've never accomplished a damn thing.

(58,724 posts)The UN Security Council has approved sanctions against the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram, five weeks after it kidnapped more than 200 schoolgirls.
It will now be added to a list of al-Qaeda-linked organisations subject to an arms embargo and asset freeze.
US envoy Samantha Power said it was an "important step" in support of efforts to "defeat Boko Haram and hold its murderous leadership accountable".

That's what we're talking about. Glad the UN is taking some action.
Too bad the world seems to be ignorant (sanctioning makes little sense??) or does not really care.
