My stovetop has places in the burner pans (I think that's what they're called)where stuff is kind of caked on, and no amount of scrubbing with various substances will remove it....I've used: baking soda and vinegar, Fantastik, and on and on. Do you guys know if it would be safe to use oven cleaner on there? Thanks!

(111,429 posts)If they're removable, put them into a black trash bag, sluice them down with household ammonia and seal that bag and leave it in the sun for 4 hours or so. That works, too, even on nasty grill pans. Then toss the bag and bring them indoors to wash as usual.
Windex has ammonia in it, so it works for lighter grease.

(1,353 posts)They're indentations on the top of the stove, and the burners sit in them. In other words, the top of my stove is basically one piece. Thanks for your help!

(20,277 posts)Maybe spray it on a rag first, then smear it around . Rather than applying directly to the burner well thingys.
If it still lookes a bit grubby try scrubbing lightly with Brillo pads. You can always get some of those foil replaceable inserts. When they get funky, toss them and get new ones.

I only know what it's called because I use it so much. It's the only thing that gets the coffee stains out of my Formica counter top.
