Related: About this forumBaked the rum cake. I think this will be my go to rum cake recipe
It was a learning process, as this recipe is very different. Next time I bake it I will organize myself a bit differently. It really does take a LOT of bowls! However it instructs you to whip up the egg whites then put them in another bowl. You can then go right ahead and whip up the cake in the mixer bowl and fold the whites back in to the batter at the end.
This recipe had a strange feature: spray the pan thoroughly with baking spray then coat the pan thoroughly with sugar. The cake practically slid out of the pan and had a beautiful golden color

(47,588 posts)The sugar gives it a nice presentation right out of the pan.
And I love a bit of added sweetness and texture when eating the cake.

(22,282 posts)My Request Them Later cakes went for $40 (6 cakes on this one) in the live auction. I have already had a request for one of them to be baked this week.
All total we raised just shy of $15,000, which we will thoroughly enjoy spending on good causes.
I bought my daughter the last remaining copy of "Cooking With Class", a cookbook put together by one of the other moms so our kids would have all their favorite recipes in one spot and not have to call home for instructions. Daughter lost hers in a breakup (fiance was a chef and he took all the cookbooks). So now she will have a new copy.
I also bought her this really cool Freida Kahlo tote bag full of New Mexico spa items. She is an artist and she loves Freida Kahlo.

(3,429 posts)me, the ones who say, " I don't like sweets!" . Everyone asked for the recipe, it's really a keeper!
I was worried the sugar would make it stick to my old Bundt pan, but it just popped right out.
Thanks for sharing the recipe.
