What's for Dinner, Sat., Dec. 17, 2022

Lamb lollipops with garlic, rosemary, olive oil, salt & pepper. I think he said he's browning them in the cast iron skillet; then they are going in the oven.

I asked the RG to make this celeriac dish he's made so many times over the years. It's kind of like celeriac slaw. He grates the bulb, known for its rather gnarly appearance:

I was reading up on it and found this quote about celeriac: Because of what it looks outside, it is referred by many as “ugly duckling”, “troll’s head” or “winter’s frog prince”.

I kinda' like "winter's frog prince."

We have russets in the slow cooker. Not sure yet what we'll do with them. Mashed? Scalloped? The RG does a fabulous scalloped potato dish and I just bought manchego.

Arugula leaves for munching and tomato salad with gold pear tomatoes, cherry, black, green, and of course, red! Homegrown basil and mozzarella. Caramel nut decaf.

Dessert: if we have any, it will be much later today and will be shortbread cookies, blackberries, and a dab of whipped cream.

on jasmine rice. The meatballs are a combo of beef and pork…although I may opt to use elk and pork. I’ll top the meatballs with scallions and black sesame seeds. Stir fried green beans and mushrooms on the side.

Altho my mummmmy was a fan of trying new foods, my father wasn't too much. Of course in upstate NY in the 50s there wasn't a whole lot of choices at A&P or Grand Union.

At a local joint.

Has veg and noodles. No meat.
I will have the leftovers later so this is my meal for the day. So much of it have to eat twice!

Happily eating leftover ham with green beans, scalloped potatoes and baked beans. I was able to share a plate with our non-cooking neighbor who was FLFC's best buddy. Sharing is good.

I had some herring in wine sauce with sour cream and toast points for an appetizer.

A clementine afterwards. Perhaps some sweet cheese too.

I made ham bone stock today and the aroma filled our residence. I reduced it quite a bit so I need to mark it "really strong!" to differentiate it from that already in the freezer marked "strong."
