Looks like it will be lasagna here in the burg tonight with nice crusty garlic bread.
What's for dinner where you are?

I'm thinking something apple strudelish. or maybe an apple cinnamon ring to match the cheezy bread
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)Sounds yummy.

(28,791 posts)I added dried onions and basil and oregano to the dough. 10x18 rectangle, 2 cups shredded cheddar, 1/4 c. Parmesan. roll it up and form into a ring. slice the top about 8 times, rise and bake.
the boys flipped over it
It looked like this, but with cheezy goodness oozing out
on edit, I did the same thing with the apples, cooked them up with cin. cardamom, brown sugar and cornstarch, then spread it out and rolled it up. the filling was still warm and runny so I neglected to slice it, and forgot before I baked it. It was very poofy, and one side split a little, but the basics were sound and it tastes amazing. I just had a leftover piece for breakfast
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)Sounds yummy and easy to do...and you could stuff it with all sorts of things. Thanks much!
I think I'd like it with a little melted butter and parmesan brushed over the top before it cools too!

(146,218 posts)the freezer. It's easy and pretty tasty.
Now, if I can just time it right, I can make the rice without a catastrophe!
I would much rather have some of your lasagna.
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)I can email you some of the lasagna...I have about 7 servings left over. We never make it, but really enjoy it when our friend brings us a pan full of gooey noodle-y goodness.

(146,218 posts)Mine comes out gooey every time.
1 1/2 cup water
1 cup rice
1/2 tsp salt
1 tablespoon of butter
Put it all in a pot, bring it to a boil and give it a quick stir, then turn it down to low, cover and leave alone for 20* minutes.
At 20 minutes, take off the lid for just a few seconds to let steam escape, and turn off the heat. Recover right away, let sit for 5 more minutes, then fluff.
*It can go as long as 25 minutes before you let the steam out if you like really dry rice.
I do use jasmine rice instead of basmati, but thats our preference, and I cook it in a regular stainless saucepan with glass lid though the video suggests a heavier pan.

(146,218 posts)There are several steps that I have been doing differently. Additional problem is that the lowest setting on my burners is not as low as I would like.
I also use Jasmine rice. The package says to rinse it several times before cooking. Do you do this?
Lucinda
(31,170 posts)And as long as it's still not a hard simmer your lowest point should be ok.
We also move pretty fast once it comes to a boil (stirring, turning it down and putting the lid on)
I hope it works well for you!

I've been on a kale kick lately .... wonder how that would work in a creamed soup?

(12,254 posts)I still carry Pepto tablets with me in case dairy is a stealth ingredient. I don't have those awful problems any more. The last time I had an episode it was triggered by garlic toast topped with (maybe) a tsp. of Parm. Unfair! But at least I'm not going from both ends at the same time and fainting on the toilet. I went from intolerant to allergic in a whisp of time. Now, it's just not worth it. Hope it never gets that way for you, Lucinda, and that you can continue to chow on your lovely lasagne!

I prefer my garlic bread without cheese...so I am a step ahead there

(12,254 posts)If you don't have to give dairy up completely, enjoy. I miss bleu cheese the most. I've found several goat cheeses that satisfy those 'I don't care if it kills me' cheese cravings. They have lactose too, but the molecules are much, much larger and don't cause problems like cow lactose does.
