(1,711 posts)me, my husband and older son. Our younger son can't be here, and he doesn't like lamb, so we three are feasting on a leg of lamb. It's hard to find this time of year! We ended up getting halal lamb from a Burmese grocery store. While there, husband and son got some gai choi, a kind of mustard green with romaine-like leaves and celery-like stems. I'm planning on stir-frying that with sesame oil and tamari. For tradition, mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, and an apple pie. Also a celery and apple salad with bleu cheese, and a starter of shrimp with cocktail sauce.

Different food considerations, so low-carb bread stuffing, turnip 'potato' casserole, mashed sweets with coconut milk, standard green bean casserole, br' sprouts, homemade cranberry sauce, rolls, and a big turkey breast and two drumsticks, Then, a chocolatey pecan pie and sugar-free cheesecake with chocolate glaze (that last for ME). We even made dairy-free onion dip.

(22,241 posts)Just the two of us anyway. My beloved is grilling pork steaks. I'll make a brown rice/mushroom casserole. Probably green beans. Crescent rolls, Edwards pumpkin spice pie from grocery.
Hmmm.....I do have some frozen cranberries I need to finally use. So maybe an apple/cranberry salad.

(35,835 posts)Crackers with various cheeses and spreads. I made cream cheese with black olives in it and there were some with hot pepper jelly on top of cream cheese. Crudites with horseradish dip.
Turkey breast, which we brined first, then browned with herbs and vegetables in one of those super-heavy pans that I can't remember the name of right now.
When served, the turkey breast slices had roasted parsnips over them. Delicious pairing of flavors.
Polenta, which was quite spicy.
Roasted potatoes. Little, tiny potatoes.
Ravioli with butternut squash sauce.
Dessert was fruit plate with grapes, apples, pears and triple cheese and Brie.

(1,076 posts)So we had a turkey breast coated in butter and our own poultry seasoning.
The sides were green beans with mushrooms (NOT the sodium/carb bomb casserole), baked sweet potatoes, my husbands squash-stuffed stuffing, cranberry mostarda, and Parker rolls. Plus Trader Joes dark chocolate with almonds and some goat gouda for the end of the meal.
All of it was diabetic-friendly and low sodium. Well, not the chocolate, but I had set aside the sugar grams for it, so I was good there.
This was the first holiday meal after my diabetes diagnosis, and we were delighted with how the changes/variations we made turned out. It was good to try new things for the holidays, and eat healthier while we were at it.
