Related: About this forumI gave Gryff a bath, today, and lived to tell the tale.
Wow! That wasn't fun. But, his fur just had a dusty appearance and feel, and while he didn't 'stink' he definitely didn't smell clean. He objected strongly but I got it done with just one semi-significant ouchie and a couple of smaller ones. I wore two work shirts to protect my arms but am sadly lacking in any flexible Kevlar work gloves. I did a good antibacterial treatment so I should be fine, but I'll keep an eye on things.
He was pretty upset with me, for a while, but now he's back on my lap, looking much shinier, feeling much smoother and smelling much nicer. His snuggles will be even more appreciated, now.
I don't plan on ever doing THAT again!

(26,390 posts)I was a little concerned that the condition of his fur might indicate a nutritional issue but it is definitely shinier now.
He really wants to absorb every second of attention I can spare.

I had to bathe Othello
He didn't like it he protested once.
Other than that he was a very good kitty didnt bite or scratch.
I think he knew I was trying to get the fleas off of him.
Afterwards after he re-straightened his fur he
Came to my freind and I and gave us both one by one a I love you shimmy of the tail.
I had to wait until the end of the month so I could buy flea control stuff.
Othello endured it like a trooper,I salted my entire apartment overnight set up flea traps with soapy water and tealights.
I went scorched Earth on those motherfuckers.
As soon as it became the first I went and got flea control and meds for fleas. Since that lady left the building there has been no more fleas.
Fleas are evil and I wish they, along with mosquitoes would fucking go extinct already.

when he was in 3rd grade. He had 2 reasons:
- to kill the 2 mosquitoes that ever existed before they could reproduce
- he wanted to know what color dinosaurs skins were, as he understood that skin did not fossilize, and it really bugged him that no one really knew the actual colors. To this day, he does not like unanswerable questions.

Wanted really bad to know what the feathers on my favorite dinosaur the archeoptrix looked like.
Still curious about that.
Though nowadays there is more info about what dino skins and feathers looked like.

(114,313 posts)Many years ago, there was one particular book on cat care which I found amusing. The chapter on bathing your cat started with the single word, "Don't".

(26,390 posts)Well 4.3 lb kitten. His meows were heartbreaking. But at the end of the day, it was a good decision to bathe him. And he's forgiven me. I hope. If you don't see any posts from me, tomorrow, you can figure he got his revenge.
Someone should invent an enclosed contraption with an opening for their head, but the rest is contained and little jets of water/shampoo shoot out while little brushes massage the shampoo into their fur. Then you open the drain, and switch to sprays of clear, warm water to remove the shampoo, and that runs out of the open drain.
Or, maybe leather mittens to restrain their claws of death.
I never bathed Sophie until a few weeks before she died, but she had gotten some fleas and combing just wasn't doing the job. She struggled, a bit, but it went much better than I imagined it could. She looked and felt so much better, afterwards.

(114,313 posts)Some cats actually love being bathed. One friend many years ago had a cat that took a shower with him every morning.
