Not sure what's going on, but he has episodes in which he hiccups, bites the air, spasms, licks the floor and generally acts manic. No vet has been able to diagnose him. The episodes used to be months apart, but have now occurred weekly. We have an appointment at Ohio State vet hospital on Monday. Happy thoughts appreciated.

(22,845 posts)or something else in your new home that triggers seizures. I've seen this mentioned in a pet column by Dr. Michael Fox, a British vet. The column appears in the Washington Post on Thursdays.

(11,803 posts)We've lived in two places in Ohio, one with carpet and one (currently) without. The frequency has increased- this is his third episode in as many weeks, and the second this week. The very first episode occurred within a few weeks of moving to Ohio.
Hopefully the Ohio State vets will know what's going on and can at least give him something to make him comfortable. Sometimes these episodes last hours.

(22,845 posts)It could be the material used to make the dog food bowl, if you bought a new one.
It could be paint, it could be an allergen in the air, a new piece of furniture, a new cleaning product, a new dog bed, something people are spraying on their lawns, or any number of things.
Look for anything that changed.

(11,803 posts)I know that I've had horrendous allergies since moving to Ohio. Thanks for the suggestions!

(11,065 posts)I wouldn't know what to make of that but it just has to be frightening to witness.
Best of luck at the vet, and I hope everything goes well.

(18,219 posts)Freakishly, also in Ohio. The dog was diagnosed with seizures and is still on an anti-seizure med, which helped but did not stop them, it just lessened the frequency.
Good luck finding the cause. Great idea to have video of this sent to the vets.

(11,803 posts)and the verdict is focal seizures. He'll be on phenobarbital for the foreseeable future, but it doesn't appear that rumors are causing them.
