12 states on path to guns with no permits

Legislatures in a dozen states are considering laws that would eliminate requirements that residents obtain permits to carry concealed weapons.

Gun-control advocates view the efforts as part of a long-range strategy to eventually weaken gun laws across the country. But supporters say armed, law-abiding citizens prevent crime.

Andrew Arulanandam, policy director for the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action, which supports these legislative efforts, argues that crime rates are low in four states — Alaska, Arizona, Vermont and Wyoming — that already allow residents to carry without a permit. "Our viewpoint is, a good person will always be a good person," he said. "They don't need a license to be a good person."

States that have been or are considering bills in current legislative sessions include Colorado, Iowa, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota and Virgina, according to the NRA.

Such a bill has already cleared the legislature in South Dakota and is waiting on the governor's signature. He is expected to sign it.

There is a wave of gun-freedom that is sweeping the country.

1. It has zero possibility of passing in Ohio.

Between the old-school gun banner Democrats up north and the statist Republicans that seemingly grow on trees around here it'll never fly. The Democrats think guns are evil and icky. The Republicans think everything not friendly to corporate America and the power of the state is evil. How's that for an alliance?

3. Not with the current Republican governer.

CCW would not have made it into law had it not been for a Democrat, Ted Strickland. Ted was the best danged one term Governor we ever had. I'll quote the famous philosopher, Flint, and say "He's more awsome than a monkey wearing a tuxedo made out of bacon and riding a unicorn."

Kasich is not exactly a champion of the people's rights. I think he has a sincere dislike for most of us, actually. You wonder how a guy like that makes it in politics. Must be the money.

6. Not surprising. It is an expensive undertaking with little payoff.

This is not surprising. Most states are coming to the realization that the people they are tracking and who are volunteering to sign up for permits are hardly ever involved in crime.

It's a huge, expensive waste of resources to track these people.
