http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/newsstatenewengland/959351-227/permitless-gun-carries-shot-down.htmlCONCORD The recent spate of wanton gun violence played a part in the state Senate killing a bill that would have expanded the rights of citizens to carry a concealed gun without a permit.
A House-approved bill (HB 536) would have made concealed permits a voluntary option and was strongly opposed by law enforcement groups and by Gov. John Lynch, who vowed to veto it.
A Senate committee recommended changing that bill to allow for carrying without a permit at home or at someones business.
But it also removed a key provision and would allow this non-permit status even for those who lawfully cant get a permit in the first place, such as a convicted felon.

(16,100 posts)Felons can't own firearms, but if this law had passed...could those felons have been charged with carrying a concealed weapon?

This is just a very difficult time for us to consider all of this, Luther said."

Funny how you agree with a neocon!? - Maybe you forgot what site you were on, or maybe it's very telling about the "real" you.

(1,761 posts)Permit fees generate revenue.
I guess your "rights" are no longer free.
Maybe New Hampshire should bring back the poll tax too
"allow for carrying without a permit at home" - Fuck them!
You don't need a permit to carry in your own house anyway! - Idiots

No way to deny that.

(6,185 posts)Not a single law has actually been repealed. They just said no to a major expansion of gun rights ... for now anyway.
So now gun control celebrates something not happening as a success - e.g. "Backlash". Keep that standard in place and we'll all be happy.
They must have been worried that NH would become the blood bath that Vermont is.
TheCowsCameHome
(40,169 posts)and the legislators know it.
It's been a rough time up there recently. It wouldn't sell now.
It's backlash, whether you see it that way or not.
DonP
(6,185 posts)OK, whatever it takes to feel better I guess?
But I think you've been standing too close to jpak, if you think no change in the law is somehow a backlash.
Thankfully everyone recognized that the people of New Hampshire are just much, much more violent than their neighbors in Vermont.
TheCowsCameHome
(40,169 posts)Support waned due to the current circumstances in New Hampshire, and now it's going to die in committee.
But do try again later, when there isn't so much gun violence going on.

(15,396 posts)We were making good progress.....now isn't the time to return to the darkages of firearm freedoms.
"But it also removed a key provision and would allow this non-permit status even for those who lawfully cant get a permit in the first place, such as a convicted felon."
A convicted felon can't legally be in possession of a firearm, period. To say that this bill would make it legal for him to carry concealed is blatantly dishonest.

Eventually it will pass.

(6,036 posts)Havn't heard of people having problems getting permits in NH. Don't have a problem with vetted individuals carrying. But don't care for the thought of every 18+ mall rat at Rockingham and Pheasant Lane carrying either. If you are going to carry in densely populated venues the public has an extra interest in making certain you are playing with a full deck.

(8,142 posts)They didn't pass a law against guns or regulate or ban guns, they just voted not to approve a law that would give the RKBA groups another victory. When you get some sort of law passed then you can claim victory.
