Related: About this forumHi...Thought this Investigative Report on "Voting Rights" might interest to those here.
If you feel it doesn't fit the SOP of the Group just PM me and I will Delete. We are working hard here in NC to try to fix the Voter Discrimination that has been put into place after the Supreme Court Decision. I work with a Non Partisan Group that is Focused on this here in N.C.
If we can't get support for Voting Rights (Same Day Registration, Right to have Early Voting Hours for Working People) WHICH N.C. HAD before the Repubs took over our House and Senate in 2010 for this in N.C. and other Southern States after Supreme's Ruling..THEN we have no hope for the future. I posted it in "Good Reads" and here is the link. I think the reporter tried to do a good job to expose the HISTORY. This not only affects AA's but Working People of all colors.
North Caroline went for Obama in 2008 and it was CLOSE in 2012 for Dems. We were a Great Transitional State who VOTED FOR OBAMA...We Dems had our Convention here in Charlotte!
As, I said, if you don't think it fits this Group....please PM me.

(489 posts)political party, they have no choice but to block as many Democratic voters as possible.
The current makeup of the Supreme Court literally exists to do just that, to take away voting rights.

(84,711 posts)Get Involved! Don't let it stand. We states who are suffering under the Supremes Decision have Court Cases in the works. Keeping on top of it is OUR DUTY.
Do what you can. Find groups in your state working to EXPOSE and SUPPORT LEGISLATION.
The TIME IS NOW...not waiting to see WHO IS ELECTED because then it will be TOO LATE!

I posted here because many DU'ers forget about the DU "Good Reads Forum." And, I thought some would find it an interesting read to at least see some investigative reporting from the NYT's which hasn't been too reliable lately.

(3,580 posts)In the last 3 elections. We have no early voting and you can only vote by mail if you apply 30 days in advance and you have a valid excuse. It's the most backwards system.
In the past 6 years they mailed out all new voting cards and then for the next election they said we needed new ones. The rules keep changing here. Every 2 years we have to do outreach to make sure people know what id they need.
My county is very rural and poor so to have one day to vote is difficult for people who travel to work or don't have transportation. I take off from work on election day and make several trips taking people to vote. I only take dems. The republicans can go fuck themselves.

When I kept seeing voting rights erode there, I was just appalled. I can only hope that y'all dump your governor as soon as possible.
