Oakland Raiders Come Back to Win 10th Game
Amari Cooper was eight years old the last time the Oakland Raiders had a 10-win season, but his 37-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter was the go-ahead play in a dramatic 38-24 come-from-behind victory over the Buffalo Bills that improved the breakout teams record to 10-2.
Winners of six consecutive games, the Raiders offense has been machine-like, earning quarterback Derek Carr the cover of ESPN The Magazine among other accolades, and has the team tied with the New England Patriots for the best record in the A.F.C.
But with less than six minutes remaining in the third quarter, it looked like the winning streak could be in jeopardy, as the Raiders trailed the Bills 24-9.
The comeback, which included 29 unanswered points, was a total team effort as the offense got two touchdowns from Latavius Murray and one each from Michael Crabtree and Cooper. The go-ahead play by Cooper was a veteran move from a young receiver, as he did a double-fake on a slant-and-go, giving himself plenty of separation against rookie cornerback Kevon Seymour.
But perhaps more importantly, the comeback also featured great play from the teams defense that had allowed 197 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns through three quarters but suddenly found a way to stop the hard-charging Bills. Khalil Mack, Oaklands standout linebacker, sealed up the victory with a sack and fumble late in the fourth quarter that ended the only promising drive for Buffalo after Oakland had come alive.

(29,322 posts)Damn. 29 unanswered, I thought for sure Buffalos D could hang on.

(31,240 posts)They were running over everybody toward the end. Plus there was Derek Carr, quickly becoming one of the outstanding QBs in the game. He seems to have all the skills, the pocket presence, and leads the offense with confidence.
From the San Francisco Chronicle this morning:

(31,240 posts)they have a few undrafted rookies on the roster who had big impacts yesterday. To get contribution from signings like this is pretty huge.

(29,322 posts)That Oakland did this offseason. All Arizona's opponents have to do is send the right blitzer and they have no chance (especially on third down) unless they throw a screen or a flat route.

(4,503 posts)Oakland only signed 1 starter (Osemele) this offseason. Hudson was acquired last year, Jackson drafted the year before, Penn and Howard the year before that. Arizona had neither the time or the cap space to do so.

(29,322 posts)I know about these moves. I meant the Donald Penn resigning this offseason plus those that you mention particularly drafting Gabe Jackson in the third round. These were all recent moves gping back to 2014, I didn't mean the 2016 offseason specifically.
Cardinals drafted DJ Humphries in the first round last year, Evan Boehm center this year in the 4th to replace Lyle Sendelin, Aq Shipley is the starting center. Their 7th round pick in '14 is currently a starter. In 2013 Jonathan Cooper in the 1st round, 7th overall pick. Last I heard he was cut by New England. They also drafted Earl Watford in the 4th round same year who is aa backup to Humphries. Bobby Massie the year before in the 4th who is now with the Bears.
Mike Lupati was a solid signing in 2015, I'm not sure how well he is doing this year but he's probably their best guy at this point.
Arizona had cap space in 2014but since half their team was injured in they signed a lot of people like AQ Shipley and Mike Lupati. They made some key resignings this year but their inability to build a solid offensive line isn't for lack of trying.

(78,249 posts)An NFL team in the Bay Area?!
and not the Red and gold one either... do you know the Raiders are 10 and 2 while the Niners are 11 and 1? Amazing, isn't it?
