1. I covered the 2008 Super Bowl in Phoenix for the AZ Republic

The face value of the tickets ranged from $500-$1000, but resale obviously pushes much higher. One thing one of my co-workers did was go to row 1, 50-yard-line and wait to see who sat their, and how much they paid. It ended up being some dude who was in town for the Phoenix Open and dropped 10K on the ticket (without his wife's knowledge). Martha Stewart was sitting behind the guy, IIRC. Same reporter did the same thing at a Fiesta Bowl back in the 90s, and it ended up being Scott Stapp from Creed who had the front-row seat.
I personally saw LL Cool J, Kurt Russell and Kate Hudson in the crowd.
That said, I did interview a lot of regular people who were season ticket holders and won the lottery to buy tickets. The game is expensive, but it's not quite as elitist as it is portrayed - or at least wasn't 15 years ago.

2. My NY Giants were playing in that game......

As a life-long fan, many of my friends and relatives asked why I wasn't going to the game.
I told them I found a much better deal.
No waiting in line for a beer or the bathroom, a line of scrimmage view EVERY play, got to watch the commercials, and a really comfortable seat with no obstructed view. Oh, and it was FREE!

Yup, I watched the game on my 80 inch while reclining in a Lazy Boy from my living room.

$5K to $7K per ticket????

3. I watched the vendors hustling to switch the championship shirts at the end

They had the Pats ones on display but not for sale, then when the Giants scored at the end they were racing to get the Giants shirts unpacked.

4. As well as the hats...

There are thousands of people in the 3rd world wearing the wrong team championship hats.
They print up both teams and donate the loser to charity overseas.....
