I love how Jesus has been completely removed from Easter. It's not about him. It's about fuzzy bunnies and colored eggs, symbols of fertility. The pagan celebration of the spring equinox, the reason for the season. Just another example of the church's theftocracy. Thank you Novelty Mart for telling it like it is.

Your comments about fuzzy bunnies and theocracy are nonsense of course, but thanks for the very real memory of turning a comic book's page.

(15,424 posts)When I see an image like this on such yellowed, aged paper I sometimes can't help wanting to see not just what the image would look like when it was freshly printed, but even idealized a little beyond that, the way your brain might tune out the paper and treat it as a clean background.
Of course, that might take away from the sense of the feel of the paper, but I still find it an interesting view.

(7,323 posts)The pulp paper used in comics was beige when new. The acid in the paper slowly turned it more of a flesh color. In time, it would even develop that unique aroma that is like perfume to paper enthusiasts.
I don't mind using Photoshop to lessen how dark it can become, but I don't like bleaching it to white.

(15,424 posts)If I were presenting the image as the only view of the original, I wouldn't go so far to pure white myself. I just find that very clean version an interesting contrast when shown along with your rendering.
Something like this might be closer to the original, pre-aged color:

(7,323 posts)I'm not going to spend much time on an ad like this. If it's a work of art by Wally Wood or Walt Kelly, then I'll adjust the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, levels and curves.

(15,424 posts)...please don't take my posts as me trying to say "This is the way it should have been done", or anything like that. Not intended that way at all! I just found this a fun image to play with.
