Bernie Sanders Just Had His Best Fundraising Month EverBernie Sanders Just Shattered Fundraising Records to Fund the Political Revolution
Zach Cartwright | March 1, 2016
As of this writing, Bernie Sanders is on target to raise over $42 million for the month of February. This morning, the Vermont senator originally set a goal of $40 million by 11:59 PM Pacific Time after announcing that his campaign had already raked in $36 million between February 1 and February 28. The campaign reached the $40 million goal shortly after 8 PM Eastern Time. According to the Sanders campaign, nearly $42 million has been raised by 1.4 million individual contributions, meaning the average contribution was approximately $30.
Whoa! He raised over $6 Million in 24 hours!
A recent Los Angeles Times article showed that some within the Democratic party were doubtful of Hillary Clintons fundraising viability if the nominating contest lasted late into the Summer, as the former First Lady and New York senator is already on the verge of tapping out her fundraising base. Many of her donors have already given the maximum $2700 donation one can give throughout the course of an election year.
$41,572,019! as of 8.40 PM exceeding his goal of $40 Million!
And Hillary has to keep going back to the same people who can't legally give her any more.
I donated tonight but it was just $15.00.

But as one guy on Twitter said 'This was supposed to be a Coronation. They weren't expecting a Revolution'
And to see them thinking they can stop it NOW just makes me laugh.
They can't. Their time is coming to an end because their policies have so harmed so many people which they seem oblivious of, because they don't care.
Now it's up to us, and I haven't seen anyone even thinking of not going all the way, even if it takes and it will, several years, to put a stop the criminal takeover of our democracy

(62,325 posts)There are now over 191 Bernie Democrats running for public office. Two more added their names to that list this week.
The PEOPLE are funding this Political Revolution THEMSELVES. Tim Canova eg a great Progressive Bernie Democrat running to rid us of DWS and he, like Bernie, has already been funded by the PEOPLE>
Where did the money Hillary 'gave' to down ticket, third way candidates come from?? Oh yes, Corporations are funding her campaign and Corporate money is what her campaign is getting for Dems. WE DO NOT WANT candidates who are funded by Corporate Money.
Bernie has now made it possible for Progressive Democrats to run for office, KNOWING they will have the money to do so, THANKS TO BERNIE.
I hope that clears up that talkiing point for you.
Bernie is making it possible for PROGRESSIVES to defeat Third Way corporate funded candidates.
And thanks for the reminder, I need to go donate to Zephyr Teachout, a Bernie Dem runniing in my state NY and a fantastic Progressive Dem. Thanks Bernie for making this possible.

(39,171 posts)if Bernie's revolution fails because he did not generate the tidal wave of new and young voters he needs and predicted, then it brings into question your basic premise that there has been a fundamental reordering of politics in America.

(62,325 posts)be abysmal. So yes, he is generating voters especially among young voters which was evident even in SC. But DWS has done her best to try to stop people from GETTING TO KNOW HIM
Until just weeks ago, a majorit of people ONLY KNEW CLINTON and clearly were not enthusiastic enough to show up to vote for her.
But where people KNOW Sanders they do show up. He was at about 2% in SC just weeks ago, shameful that the DNC was not introducing him, doing their best to STOP information about him but he did go from 2% to 26% there with not enough time to do more. That is now changing as they Have to cover him a little bit, not much, but at least when the states begin to vote.
As a result THIS is what is happening:
hack89
(39,171 posts)if they are so easily convinced not to vote. People know Sanders now. And he is stilling losing.

(62,325 posts)'much of a revolution' which is why so few showed up in SC where people DID NOT KNOW they had a CHOICE.
Bernie's Revolution otoh, is amazing and growing every day, funded by the PEOPLE and growing stronger as more and more people learn that they DO have a choice.
But you're right about Hillary, people just aren't showing up for her.

(62,325 posts)This is how Bernie's revolution is working, despite all the efforts to deny people the opportunity to get to know him, word is getting out and that will increase, is increasing every day.
Hillary cannot win the GE. The Dem base is now only 30% of registered voters having lost approx 12% of its base over the past number of years.
Bernie's cross over appeal will win this election for him and US. Hillary has practically zero crossover appeal and simply cannot win the GE with half of 30% of registered voters.
hack89
(39,171 posts)You do realize that your graph is outdated and there are more recent polls that show that both Bernie and Hillary can beat any Republican. Also, such polls are volatile as the election gets closer and people actually engage and start making hard choices. (62,325 posts)THE Main issue of this campaign for the first time.
He has refused to allow the Corp tools to badger him about NOT BEING A CHRISTIAN reminding them at the same time of what REAL Christianity means.
He has started a Political Movement that now has over 193 Bernie Democrats running for Public office on the same message he is runniing on.
He thrashed the predictions that he was a Fringe Candidate who 'would be gone without Corp Money by the end of the Summer'.
He has PROVEN the LIE and EXCUSES that candidates MUST take Corporate bribes in order to run for office.
In fact he is shattering ALL the talking points we've been fed for decades as to why we must settle for candidates we do not support but who are chosen for us by Corporate America/Wall St.
And the strength of his messge is spreading each time more people hear it. Which is happening now at a faster rate as more and more people join his campaign and they too become involved in making sure people do hear his message.
In fact, his Political Revolution has surpassed even his imagination because a majority of the people AGREE WITH him on almost all the issues.

You're wrong, he is gathering support as people get to know him and has defeated the Corporate Powers brilliantly up to now from 'appointing' their choice of candidates.
It is very exciting and will continue after the election building until we get rid of every Corporate candidate from Congress.
He has shown the people that they do have power,, when they are united. Wall St is freaking out which is a good sign for the people.

Hillary's 'support' for down ticket, Third Way candidates is coming from Corporations and Wall St.
But Bernie has made it possible for Progressives to challenge those very candidates now as We the PEOPLE will be funding them now.
Two More Bernie Democrats have added themselves to the list of over 191 this week.
I'm so psyched at how smart Bernie is and how scared the Establishment is that the People's Political revolution is not going to stop until we replace all those Corp funded Candidates Hillary's Corp donations are funding.

(11,945 posts)but couldn't remember where I saw the list. A browser search turned up your excellent OP that Janey apparently didn't see.

Is there a more permanent place for the list? It is an excellent resource. I think it should be added to one of the Bernie sites or possibly a new site for the entire movement. Can someone make this happen?
(While writing this I had to talk with the person who is painting my house and somehow one thing led to another and it turns out he's totally glued into rightwing radio propaganda, some guy named Dennis Prager, thinks Limbaugh is a brilliant analyst, government is THE problem, the only corporate-owned politicians are Democrats, and Wall Street is ALL Democrats. He correctly sees Hill as corrupt but thinks Bernie is going to make the government even bigger and impose taxes on the people. When the conversation got heated, I had to remind him that we have a project to do, I want a well-painted house and he wants money, and if we're going to get through this pleasantly and successfully, we'll have to agree to disagree and avoid political discussions. He agreed and we shook hands.)
Oh and while I'm off topic, I want you to know, sabrina, that it is wonderful and necessary to have you here. I hope all of our strong Bernie supporters will hold their noses and continue at DU as much as possible, until the convention. (It seems to make a difference; the parallels with the national conversation are startling, and I often see things here first.)

(94,950 posts)...but how about going out a limb and telling us which States Sanders will win that will get him to the Convention?
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)on states that won't help him win the delegates he needs to win the Nom. He was far too UNKNOWN an entity, with only about 2% of the electorate even having heard of him when he started out. He won two states, yes he won Iowa, without the coin tossing, two states it was predicted he wouldn't be around for just months ago.
After Super Tuesday he is likely to win California eg, he will not win NY as the Dem Party has made it impossible for people to VOTE FOR HIM here by forcing them to register back in October. I managed to get some people registered in time but anyone currently registered as an Independent eg, who just learned about Bernie, thanks to the Dem Party Machine, cannot vote for him now in NY.
Sad isn't it that the Party has to use these vote suppression tactics to try to win it for THEIR choice of candidate?
So he won't send much money here as it would be futile thanks to the rigged system.
However in open Primary states as people get to know him, they can vote for him.
I will not make predictions except to say he WILL go all the way to the Convention and as the election season progresses will gather more and more support along the way.

(94,950 posts)IOW -- ALL of Sanders support comes from people who weren't previously registered?

Many Dems, I'm actually AMAZED at how many I have talked to here in Upstate NY where out in the middle of nowhere I am seeing Bernie signs, but not won Hillary or Trump or any other signs, ARE supporting him here in NY.
Now there are many others, registered Indies eg, who did not know him in Oct but know him now, who WANT to vote for him, wiling to change to Dems, but thanks to the RIGGED SYSTEM here they cannot.
I guess the Dem party leadership don't have much confidence in their candidate when they are afraid of voters choices. Says a lot about her chances in the GE

Holder ends up saying the banks are too big to prosecute while his former and soon to be future Wall Street lawyer firm defends them from the other side.
By Mark Gongloff - 03/06/2013 04:29 pm ET

"I am concerned that the size of some of these institutions becomes so large that it does become difficult for us to prosecute them when we are hit with indications that if you do prosecute, if you do bring a criminal charge, it will have a negative impact on the national economy, perhaps even the world economy," Holder said, according to The Hill. "And I think that is a function of the fact that some of these institutions have become too large."
Holder's comments don't come as a total surprise. His underlings had already made similar confessions to The New York Times last year, after they declined to prosecute HSBC for flagrant, years-long violations of money-laundering laws, out of fear that doing so would hurt the global economy. Lanny Breuer, formerly in charge of doling out the Justice Department's wrist slaps to banks, told Frontline as much in the documentary "The Untouchables," which aired in January.

Barack Obama's former top cop cashes in after six years of letting banks run wild
By Matt Taibbi July 8, 2015
Eric Holder has gone back to work for his old firm, the white-collar defense heavyweight Covington & Burling. The former attorney general decided against going for a judgeship, saying he's not ready for the ivory tower yet. "I want to be a player," he told the National Law Journal, one would have to say ominously.
~Snip~
Here's a man who just spent six years handing out soft-touch settlements to practically every Too Big to Fail bank in the world. Now he returns to a firm that represents many of those same companies: Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, Chase, Bank of America and Citigroup, to name a few.
Collectively, the decisions he made while in office saved those firms a sum that is impossible to calculate with exactitude. But even going by the massive rises in share price observed after he handed out these deals, his service was certainly worth many billions of dollars to Wall Street.
~Snip~
One is that he failed to win a single conviction in court for any crimes related to the financial crisis. The only trial of any consequence brought by his Justice Department for crimes related to the crisis involved a pair of Bear Stearns nimrods named Ralph Cioffi and Matthew Tannin, who confided in each other via email that the subprime markets were "toast" but told their clients something very different to keep them invested.

(11,945 posts)Does anyone really have to explain that?
Obama was no threat whatsoever. On top of that, he was young, handsome, charismatic, an African American, and an up and comer who gave a knockout speech at a previous Dem convention -- qualities that make for very good press.
Who couldn't figure that out?
Those who spend their time counting votes and spouting talking points run the risk of losing the ability to see the big picture and make logical inferences from known facts.

(62,325 posts)candidates were backed by Corporate powers, we had no choice. And when Corporations are betting on a Candidate they have no problem being promoted, by the Corp Media.
Bernie of course is a unique candidate who despite all the effort to HIDE him from the people since he is the antidote to Corporate power over our government, he has found brilliant ways of getting past their blockades erected between him and the people.
Sure it's hard when, unlike Obama and Hillary Wall St isn't rooting for you, Obama eg, got backing from Bush's backers, but it's not impossible as we are seeing for the FIRST TIME
I eg, supported Obama over Hillary based on some important differences on the issues, but I did not donate to his campaign because I knew he had enough money from Corporate entities to help him stay in the campaign.
I do donate to Bernie because I know he has no Corporate backers.

(3,111 posts)When you stand up for things that are meaningful, and you mean what you say and say what you mean, that's really something in this cynical, lying world.
I believe in Bernie. I believe in what he stands for. I believe most of what he champions represents the very best of what this Democratic Party has always stood for, at least since the days of F.D.R.
This is what Harry Truman said, which I've posted elsewhere, and seems to ring a bell with some people.
The first rule in my book is that we have to stick by the liberal principles of the Democratic Party. We are not going to get anywhere by trimming or appeasing. And we don't need to try it.
The record the Democratic Party has made in the last 20 years is the greatest political asset any party ever had in the history of the world. We would be foolish to throw it away. There is nothing our enemies would like better and nothing that would do more to help them win an election.
I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign.
But when a Democratic candidate goes out and explains what the New Deal and fair Deal really are--when he stands up like a man and puts the issues before the people--then Democrats can win, even in places where they have never won before. It has been proven time and again.
We are getting a lot of suggestions to the effect that we ought to water down our platform and abandon parts of our program. These, my friends, are Trojan horse suggestions. I have been in politics for over 30 years, and I know what I am talking about, and I believe I know something about the business. One thing I am sure of: never, never throw away a winning program. This is so elementary that I suspect the people handing out this advice are not really well-wishers of the Democratic Party.
More than that, I don't believe they have the best interests of the American people at heart. There is something more important involved in our program than simply the success of a political party.
The rights and the welfare of millions of Americans are involved in the pledges made in the Democratic platform of 1948 and in the program of this administration. And those rights and interests must not be betrayed.
