2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI just finished the debate and Bernie won the beginning and Hillary dominated the rest. Hillary won.
Bernie had opportunities, he's too nice IMO. It could doom him if he was the nominee. Hillary doesn't hesitate she's a great debater.
Bernie is better on the issues, but Hillary's preparation for debates is unmatched.

(29,798 posts)You think he should have taken advantage of her personal action. You are disappointed in fact, that he focused his criticism on the underlying issue of a corrupt system that she is participating in.
I don't know. My instinct is like your own, and I'd probably strike out at her. On the other hand, I have to admit that I think what he did makes him a better person than I am; both politically because it focused on the real problem before the Republic, and on the personal level of integrity.

He doesn't get involved in the insult game - where Trump excels. He doesn't turn and "face" Trump (key), he focuses on the camera and the audience and delivers his message.
Look, the Dem nominee has to be prepared to fight off Trump. Its important we study what's been effective. Who has escaped Trump's attacks virtually unscathed so far? Kasich. Who debates the same way? Sanders
HRC gets prickly and defensive when cornered. Trump knows her intimately - they're old friends. He's got LOADS of ammunition both personal and business and won't hesitate to unleash all of it. He shut down her 'sexist' charge in less than 24 hours by going after Bill's affairs. She hasn't mentioned it since.
I'm not naive. I also believe the nomination will go to HRC but I refuse to go down without a fight

(6,829 posts)He takes that as a professional standard and has abided by it in every race he's run
He doesn't "take down" or destroy his opponents. He believes the positions on the issues are foremost and people should vote on those positions rather than tearing down the other candidate
its who he is fyi. Its who he's always been

He's passed on dissing her for role in our foreign policy disasters
I could name a dozen scandals he's passed on doing "serious damage". He simply doesn't run that kind of campaign. Never has, never will and is obviously succeeding on his own terms

(3,623 posts)...that he would be nice to Republicans in a debate? There is plenty of video evidence in Congressional debates that shows he is very willing to destroy Republican ideas right to their face.
He likely realizes Hillary will be the Democratic nominee. He cannot and should not play hardball at this point.

(65,180 posts)You don't want to go after the other too hard because the other side will use it. In the GE debates, both candidates would go all out.

(3,623 posts)...she will go after him for bankruptcies, etc. Trump is not exactly a real conservative. He is far left of Hillary (never mind the GOP) on trade policy, at least in recent years.
He has flip-flopped on every issue so I don't think anyone really knows what he believes. He has suggested socialist ideas like universal healthcare and fascist ideas like a national Muslim registry. The guy is a huge mess from a policy standpoint.

But I'll admit I'm biased because I just don't trust her.
