Congressional Record, December 11, 2008 - Inhofe (R-OK) gave a special shout-out to Bernie Sanders for co-sponsoring his bill to block the Auto Bailout along with the right wing Senators pictured above.
Now this is an interesting bit of information. It explains why Inhofe is his friend. They both opposed the bailout of the Auto Industry.

(3,660 posts)Bernie voted for the auto bailout. Against TARP - which Hillary voted for and was meant to funnel money to her fat cat friends on Wall St. It just happened to have some funds that got reappropriated toward the auto bailout later and that had nothing to do with the votes.

He voted to bankrupt companies with several million highly paid, middle class, union jobs.
This also explains while Inhofe is a friend.

S.3683 - A bill to amend the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act to require approval by the Congress for certain expenditures for the Troubled Asset Relief Program.
Fortunately, Democrats made sure there were funds to save several million jobs.
revbones
(3,660 posts)Not the auto bailout. So your complaint is that he voted on an ammendment on TARP??? Soooo ridiculous.
Agnosticsherbet
(11,619 posts)at the loss of those jobs.
Fortunately real liberals and progressives saved them.
While Republicans conservatives like Inhofe chose to destroy the auto industry.
Goodbye.

revbones
(3,660 posts)No, it's hard for me when I've read the facts of the situation, to put up with falsehoods and distortions.
And now the ridiculously laughable statement that Hillary Clinton saved the auto industry. No she voted to funnel money to her fat cat friends on Wall St. The president just opted to use some of the TARP funds that had not been disbursed yet for the auto bailout, because it didn't pass congress.
Get. Your. Facts. Straight.

(3,660 posts)You distort what's in the congressional record because the DailyKos poster wrote that he looked it up. If you read the comments there, you see that he doesn't have anything specific other than a letter that mentioned auto loans and a bunch of misleading statements.
I'd be open to truth. This is just pathetic.

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. (3,660 posts)It's also pointless to argue with those putting out junk like this, since they can't admit they've been proven wrong. Worse yet their stance stems from someone on DailyKos that said they looked it up. lol Careful reading of the comments, shows there is still a lack of proof on their part. I'm done with this one.

(3,660 posts)In late 2008, President George Bush made a start of cleaning his messes by passing the Financial Industry Bailout.
Bernie Sanders voted against this Bailout, claiming that Main Street could not afford it, and that the money should not come from the middle class.
Democrats passed a separate Auto Bailout bill, which Bernie Sanders voted for, but Republicans obstructed.
When the Auto Industry needed funds to stay afloat, President Bush elected to use funds that had been designated for the Financial Industry Bailout to begin saving the Auto Industry.
After his election, President Obama continued on the path that had begun under President Bush.

The congressional record will also prove all this. It would be nice for once if Hillary and her supporters stuck to facts and real policy positions, but I understand it's hard with she has nothing to stand on...

(24,010 posts)Bernie Sanders voted against (the banks) Bailout (TARP), claiming that Main Street could not afford it, and that the money should not come from the middle class.
Democrats passed a separate Auto Bailout bill, which Bernie Sanders voted FOR...(my emphasis)
Republicans voted down the Auto Bailout bill that Bernie Sanders voted FOR. Then Bush, then Obama USED THE (Bank bailout) TARP MONEY A DIFFERENT WAY (to additionally bail out auto industry). This occurred AFTER TARP was passed and signed into law.
I frankly think we're dealing with trolls, into very bad behavior. I don't use "ignore" and I never agree to "hide" (in a jury) except once for a really foul racial slur. Cuz I want to see who posts this kind of crap--in addition to seeing the content of sincere posters with whom I disagree. I am an open-minded person. I like all genuine views to get an airing. I DON'T like the publication, thru DU, of outright lies like this one. I won't report it, though. I want all to see who you are and thus grow in wisdom when they see your names again or recognize your tactics under different avatars.

(9,086 posts)The TARP vote was the banking bailout.
After it passed, President Obama went into the TARP fund, and used part of the money for the auto bailout. But nobody knew it would be used for that when they voted on it.
That is the basis of Hillary's false claim that Bernie voted against auto bailout money. Because some of the TARP money did end up being used for that. But nobody knew that it would be at the time when they voted on it.
People spreading this lie don't understand what type of damage they are causing. Debate should be over real issues, not on lies and distortions.
This claim has been refuted by Democratic Senators and many other people in the know like David Axelrod. News anchor Poppy Harlowe refuted this claim as a point of objective fact on CNN today when one of Hillary's surrogates repeated it.
These smears are angering a lot of people and this is the reason why you see so many life long Democrats saying things like they just can't vote for Hillary in the fall. This is the reason.

(9,086 posts)Yes some of the money ended up being used for that, about $85 million of it, but they didn't know it would be used for that when they voted on it. The vote was to release phase 2 of TARP money, and President Obama decided to use some of it for the auto industry bailout after the fact.

... anyone who thinks that a lot of the Republican opposition to this automobile bailout -- when the Republicans defeated it a couple of weeks ago -- didn't have a lot to do with trying to destroy the United Automobile Workers and to in fact drive down wages--which are already plummeting in the automobile industry -- is sorely mistaken.
Now some listeners may say, "Well you know, frankly I don't live in Detroit, I don't make cars -- why should I worry about it?" Here's why you should worry about it. Historically the gold standard for manufacturing workers was the automobile industry. Workers there earned good wages. They had good benefits. They had a strong union. They had a pension program, and so forth. And by raising that standard, it meant that in non-union manufacturing in the state of Vermont, or the state of Arizona, you had a standard by which people had to respond to. And if in your gold standard area wages go down, so that people are entering the automobile industry now making 14 bucks an hour with lower benefits, how do you think people are going to make a living wage working in a non-union shop elsewhere in this country?
