2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders Will Be The Next Vice President
As Vice President He Will Have Alot More Power To Work On The Issues That He Has Campaigned On & That We (even Hillary Supporters) So Desperately Need.
As A Clinton Supporter Here In Ohio I Do Not Think Bernie Should Drop Out. I Am Not Posting This To Mock Bernie Sanders Or His Supporters.
I Feel Your Pain, I Know What It's Like When A Good & Decent Man Loses An Election. In 2004 I Was Probably The Biggest 14 Year Old Supporter Of A Candidate, Who Has Since Become My Hero, & When I Found Out He Lost The Election, Like Many Of You Here Tonight, I Was Devastated.
Yet Secretary Kerry Kept Fighting The Good Fight & Because Of That He Is Now The Greatest SOS Of My Young Life.
I Implore To The Bernie Sanders Supporters Reading This To Take Comfort In Knowing Even Though He MAY NOT Be The Democratic Nominee, I Suspect He Will Keep Fighting The Good Fight & If Hillary Is The Democratic Nominee I Suspect Bernie Sanders Will Be Standing Right Beside Her As The Vice President.
In The Last 16 Years The Democratic Nominee Has Chosen A Fellow Candidate For Vice President Despite Their Differences. I Truly Believe That Bernie Sanders Can & Will Get More Done As Vice President & President Of The Senate Than Just Going Back To Being A Senator From Vermont...

(13,390 posts)The usual age decline began for Reagan before he left the White House. For the executive branch to be occupied by two office holders who are in advanced age makes it much more likely that we would see a president Ryan than I am comfortable with. At the very least should have a younger VP who will be able to run after the term is over.

(5,126 posts)His wife doesn't want it. He LOVES being a Senator and we need him where he is.
He and Connie like living in their neighborhood, taking walks, driving to the store, etc. I think this is one pol that has a realistic view and doesn't want to live in the bubble.
He would be a strategic pick though, probably the best one. Ohio loves him and he has the progressive credentials to help balance the ticket.

(8,660 posts)I'm not sure. 1) Universal Healthcare is Bern's passion. 2) Hill has a track record of burying the hatchet with erstwhile political rivals. 3) Bill Clinton pawned healthcare off on Hill because he knew it would eat him up. It ate Hill up. 4) Hillary has made it a key issue of her platform to protect/expand Obamacare. She might not be so cocky as to think she can do that and be effective with the rest of her platform all by herself. 4) Hill and Bern are not that far off on healthcare.

(34,136 posts)I would erase every newspaper and political site off my computer and become a hermit. I have had poor judgement a time or two in my life but I would bet my life that this good man would never ever consider being under the thumb of HRC. What a phenomenally BAD idea to try to place Bernie in any part of her administration.

(34,136 posts)He was accepted into the party and he is a smart and good human being. I don't for one minute think that means he agrees with her on much but it does mean he is holding his end of the deal up. His endorsement does not mean any of us have to follow along.

(40,416 posts)In fact, the choice of VEEP is often a strategic choice, somebody from an area of the country where the candidate needs some support. And I think Bernie fully intends to serve out his term in the US Senate if he fails to get the nomination, although a cabinet position might entice him.
But not VEEP. I don't think Hillary Clinton would offer it, and I don't think he would accept it if she did. It is just the wrong thing to do.
She will very likely select somebody younger, as would Bernie if he gets the nomination.
BTW, I must say. The best VEEP in my lifetime has been Joe Biden. That is saying a lot, since I was born in the late 40's and remember Ike getting elected in 52. The second best was LBJ.

(6,719 posts)We need Sanders in the Senate. The veep for clinton will be someone obedient. Sanders will keep fighting and talking and those of us who listen will work for issues to be included in the party platform and then in bills in the Senate. Maybe clinton will pick o'malley. That will fit your picture.
