Related: About this forumGeorge Clooney: Clinton 'the only grown-up in the room'
If you listen to the loudest voices out there today, youd think were a country that hates Mexicans, hates Muslims, and thinks that committing war crimes is the best way to make America great again.
The truth is, Clooney writes, that the only thing that would prevent America from being great would be to empower these voices
The 54-year-old Academy Award winner writes, As this primary process continues, Hillary could soon have an insurmountable delegate lead and with that, the Democratic nomination. That would then make her the only grown-up in the room.
And if ever there was a time for a grown-up, the longtime Democrat adds, that time is now.
Clooney, along with his wife, Amal Clooney, is hosting a fundraiser at his Los Angeles home for Clinton next month.

So he did not say Bernie was not a grown up. So no need to jerk into attack mode.

(2,145 posts)He's one of the elite now. Two beautiful rich people do not want to pay higher taxes. Clooney is not one of us. Remember when he made the Edward R Murrow movie? Somehow, I think he's changed. Of course, I could be wrong.

(2,145 posts)Americans so apathetic and uninformed. I've thought about moving to nova scotia. Sell everything I have and going to that small very affordable island. Is it an island? I think so. Beautiful less-populated place. I looked at property there. I think the day will come when an awful lot of Americans will want to leave the country.

(4,805 posts)I absolutely refuse to accept that analogy that in order to be a grown-up one must have an "insurmountable delegate lead".
It does not stand on the face of it.
What does that make you and all of us who do not seek the public office of presidency?

(47,803 posts)and as has been noted several times in this thread, Clooney was not attacking Sanders. In fact he praised him.
He is making the "pragmatic choice" but jnot attacking sanders.

Pretty much all the neutral analysis of Sanders tax and spending plans out there agrees that they're grossly overoptimistic. I choose not to ignore that evidence; you're welcome to do so if you wish.

(6,282 posts)Why, you ask? Because the OP's title is a lie and Clooney never said such a thing about Bernie.
Unless you are mistaken about where you are, and don't realize this is not Free Republic, where criticism of The Donald is verboten?

He was dissing every single one of the Republican candidates, not Bernie.

(15,139 posts)is sponsoring a contest which showed up on my Facebook wall tonight. If you fork over your name and email address, you can be entered into a contest for the chance to attend Clooney's Hillary fundraiser at his LA house.
The comments that this FB post have already generated are overwhelmingly negative, calling it a ploy to collect e-mail addresses, and the fundraiser itself an event where the "winner" will likely be ignored and treated like the help. One media report indicates that the price of admission to this shindig is $30k per person, so it's a sure bet that characterization isn't too far off the mark.
This reminds me of something that happened to my brother years ago when Gray Davis was running for governor of California. My brother was working for an insurance company and was involved in settling a homeowner's claim for a man who was a prominent Democratic Party fundraiser. He took an interest in photos displayed in the man's home showing him posing with many party bigwigs. Out of the blue, the maninvited my brother to attend a fundraising reception for Gray Davis, and he accepted with the caveat that he would not be required to make a contribution. He was barely scraping by at the time as a claim's adjuster. The day of the event, my brother was standing off to the side watching the parade of wealthy donors. Davis spotted him, walked over, and said something like, "I don't believe we've met." My brother, who was a little flustered, explained his business relationship with the host and added that even though he was unable to contribute monetarily to the campaign, he would certainly vote for the candidate. Davis was not impressed. He turned on his heel and walked away without another word. Feeling very awkward and out of place, my brother quietly made an exit. As George Carlin reminded us in that famous routine, it's a club and we ain't in it.

(1,052 posts)more than that of, say Scott Baio or Danny Devito because . . .
. . . he emotes better on screen?
. . . he has a better agent?
. . . he looks more like a governor of California?
. . . someone liked his show more?
. . . if he said "I'm not a real doctor, but I play one on T.V.," suckers would buy his snake oil?
Sorry. This kid's opinion is much more valuable to me:

(4,213 posts)differing visions are childish. It implies we are the "grown ups" and that only we know the answers.
Let's get rid of this parent-child relationship baloney. We're all people with differing ideas, and we're all of voting age. But condescension is a very unappealing character trait. (Yes, even for a grown-up)

(5 posts)Clooney is the guy who calls CLinton the 'adult in the room' - HAH! she is the shortsighted , immature and irresponsible one . SHe completely ignores the coming Social security crisis (0) (it is plain childish to think that 2034 is too far away); her energy policy is 'just plain silly' says preeminent climate scientist Dr. James E. Hansen (1) - we need bold far sighted leadership and not someone whose MO is 'pay for play' and that it about it. We need an adult in the room , yes, and that is clearly Bernie Sanders. (3)
EDIT
If one looks into Global warming , one does not simply fix it w/ a stroke of the pen (which we can do theoretically with our nat'l debt) as it is physics, and physics > politics (sorry , Politico)
As it has been said by former SEattle mayor in his letter to Harvard to divest itself from FF (1) ....
We're the first generation to see the effects of climate change, and the last generation who can do anything about it,
This means looking ahead to times where most if not all of us will not be here, and this is the quintessence of acting like an adult - to act responsibly to leave the world a better place for our kids.
Pay for play, getting millions for Wall st speeches , are all child's play
