2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSanders interview from 1988 -- same message as today. Uncanny.
He was then mayor of Burlington Vermont. . . He has he exact same message as he does today.
It is AMAZING. Some candidates are more like weathervanes and some are like a lighthouse on a granite rock
Presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders speaks with C-SPAN in 1988 while mayor of Burlington, Vermont. The interview reveals more of Sanders' man-of-the people worldview and political positions, and how little those positions have changed over his 30+ year political career.

(14,255 posts)stance on, say, gay marriage (again) - would they understand why Bernie's steadfast beliefs appeal to so many? or would they immediately start "explaining" why of course Hillary is correct, and evolving. I have already seen attempts to paint over cluster bombs (we need 'em in case we need to kill lots and lots of Chinese folks!), war (Hillary had nothing to do with war, it was Just One Vote, and when she was SOS she was actually just an Obama puppet and mouthpiece.) TPP is GOOD! Gold Standard! No, it is BAD! And all the things she is "going to look into".
FFS. Ugh.

He is a LEADER. That is what we need.
Not a follower.

(5,636 posts)... the world changes, reality changes, but not Sanders. That's probably why he's losing.
How could anyone have the nerve to fight income inequality and the disappearing middle class for so long.
He should really change positions. Say f*ck the Middle Class.. That way he can win Onlooker's respect
What a joke.
Comparing a Pat Robertson/Jerry Fallwell-esque candidate to Sanders.

(3,017 posts)During their Town Hall in Illinois 2-3 weeks ago. Tweety was saying you used to be a Goldwater Girl. I have changed over the years. What does it say about somebody (i.e. Bernie) if they still believe everything they believed decades ago? And they were both kind of laughing and snickering about how they were so much smarter and open minded because they had finally evolved to views Bernie has always held.
Tweety was kind enough not to mention that he was the one Hillary had given a curt "No"response to at another Town Hall a decade or so before that, when he had asked her if she believed gay marriage should be allowed.
