Sanders says campaign isn't over if he doesn't win California
By Rebecca Savransky
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said his campaign won't necessarily be over if he doesn't win the California primary on June 7.

(1,536 posts)When one of the candidates gets the required amount of pledged delegates to secure the nomination. If that doesn't happen, it goes to the convention.
I don't understand what is SO difficult about understanding that.
The rules don't say 'until California' or 'until June 7'.
For someone who's candidate has it in the bag, you people sure complain a lot.

(11,619 posts)It is not that difficult.
Clinton needs 73.
Shadowflash
(1,536 posts)ONLY vote at the convention, if the race is undecided when it gets there.
They DO NOT count toward the regular pledged delegate count while the race is ongoing. Good try, though.

(11,619 posts)Wishful thinking will not win the nomination for Sanders.
Democrats will not nominate a candidate who could not win the votes of a majority of Democrats.

(1,536 posts)What I said are facts. Sorry you don't like them but, hey, I'm just the messenger.

(9,527 posts)There is no reason to think that Sanders would be able to convince the super delegates to switch once he officially loses the pledged delegate count. In 2008 Clinton conceded the race shortly after the last votes because the outcome was obvious and correct that the winner of the pledged delegates would be the nominee.
It will be the same in 2016. In a best case scenario for Sanders, he takes it to the convention and loses handily on the first ballot.

Where did I say that? All I brought up was the fact that the primary election rules don't say the race is over with California or on June 7 and the fact that superdelegates don't cast votes until the convention.
You made up the rest.

(2,331 posts)However you can make a presumption about who the nominee is by the pledged and super delegate count.

(2,054 posts)That's just a political fact of life.
Unless Hillary withdraws from the race due to personal scandals or other factors which is entirely possible.

(12,689 posts)Without any contests left, there is no campaign. DC votes after California, but there aren't enough delegates there to make a difference.

(1,446 posts)and having Obama, Biden, Warren, etc. all asking Sanders to get out of the race for reasons of unity will make him look even worse than he does now.

(5,818 posts)on June 7th would really brand Bernie as a bizarre sore-loser head case--EXCELLENT point.
I wonder whether Bernie Weaver et al can think that far ahead. After June 7th it's not going to be just Bernie vs. Hillary. It's going to be Bernie vs. 99 percent of national and downticket Democrats.
