Sowell: Only Gingrich can handle Obama in a debate; only impeachment or coup can stop Obama

Thomas Sowell, syndicated columnist and libertarian economist at Stanford University's Hoover Institute, commented in his column of the same name about Super Tuesday:

(Obama) would have the closest thing to a blank check. Nothing could stop him but impeachment or a military coup, and both are very unlikely. A genial corrupter is all the more dangerous for being genial.

OUCH! Sowell must miss 1998 and 1999 when impeachment of the president was a daily topic in the news. Too bad Breitbart didn't have a sex tape of Obama instead of 21-year-old footage from Harvard Law.

Now on to the primary:

Ron Paul? Even those of us who agree with much of his domestic agenda, including getting rid of the Federal Reserve System, cannot believe that his happy-go-lucky attitude toward Iran's getting a nuclear weapon represents anything other than a grave danger to the whole Western World.

Rick Santorum has possibilities, but can he survive the media's constant attempts to paint him as some kind of religious nut who would use the government to impose his views on others? And, if he can, will he also be able to go toe-to-toe with Obama in debates?

Well guess what?

Santorum remarked that Pres. John F. Kennedy's speech about separation of church and state disgusted him so much he'd "throw up". Seriously. Does Sowell not think that Santorum's views on JFK speech imply much on how a Pres. Santorum would approach religion and government?

Mitt Romney is the kind of candidate that the Republican establishment has always looked for, a moderate who can appeal to independents. It doesn't matter how many such candidates have turned out to be disasters on election night, going all the way back to Thomas E. Dewey in 1948.

Nor does it matter that the Republicans' most successful candidate of the 20th century — Ronald Reagan, with two consecutive landslide victories at the polls — was nobody's idea of a mushy moderate.

He stood for something. And he could explain what he stood for. These may sound like modest achievements, but they are very rare, especially among Republicans.

Newt Gingrich is the only candidate still in the field who can clearly take on Barack Obama in one-on-one debate and cut through the Obama rhetoric and mystique with hard facts and plain logic.

But does Santorum not stand up for his beliefs too? There's gotta be a reason he has won more states than Gingrich. For example, Santorum calling Obama a snob for expanding college affordability or being an aggressive hawk on Iran.

And Gingrich using facts and logic? When Gingrich made up an Obama quote about gas prices?

But he knows how to insult the media and the moderators really well and they let him get away with it, inexplicably. This hasn't a thing to do with "hard facts and plain logic". it has to do with Newt being as big an asshole as Rush is and getting a free pass on it.

That it wouldn't take much "painting". His own words speak for him.

Gingrich would last about as long in debate with President Obama as a snowflake in the Sahara.

It would be the biggest deflation of a bag of gas since the Hindenburg crashed.

Gingrich would not be able to just stand there and lie without getting called on it, each and every time he did so.

And that is all he has, he has nothing else of substance, all the "Big Ideas" everyone of the Right seems to be enamoured of are all moonbeam bullshit fairytale pie-in-the-sky nonsense spouted by Gingrich for the gullible.

Facts are Gingrich's natural enemy, and he would be skewered by them, mercilessly, by Mr. Obama.

but since wingers are convinced Obama will declare martial law, I suppose telling them that won't matter.
