2016 Postmortem

... as tempting as it is. Hold back the "I told you sos".
Believe me, its not easy - especially for me.
But we need to fix the country now. We have to heal the nation.
We don't know what kind of House the President will be facing tomorrow, but I believe he too will offer an olive branch to the Republican House leaders.
And the GOP legislators will be looking at their constituents, gauging their mood. There will be a small recalcitrant minority, obviously, but the majority of the rest can be won over.
Remember, several studies have indicated the economy will be booming again within the next two years, and more than twelve million jobs will be created in the next eight. The only thing that could possibly scupper this is if the GOP continues with their obstructionist policies and make inroads in 2014.
I know this sounds like a cliche, but for the good of the country, we need to come together.
Okay. Now, I've to head to my regular forum and try not to gloat.
And Mr. President, congratulations.
ps: Mr. Axelrod, you are a legend. Rove should crawl in your presence.

(8,138 posts)But it's a free country. Gloat if you want. I just choose to have a personal moratorium on that for a couple of days, in the name of unity.
I've been reaching out to dozens since yesterday.

(14,093 posts)I had to look at these obnoxious stickers throughout W.Va., Ohio and Ky. after 2004 while Bush was destroying the country
Republicans were downright vile in their gloating of their ugly 2004 victory - so I'm going to take a little delight in rubbing this one in the wingnuts' and the birthers' faces for a few days.

But we have an advantage. We have rationality. We have science. We have experience. We have compassion.
No country can profess to be a leader if they don't lead everybody.

This is what we need to show.

(88 posts)Why were House Repugs re-elected? Some new pubs even won seats. They weren't elected to go and be friends with PBO. They will claim to have a mandate from THEIR voters to obstruct and stonewall PBO's agenda.
I sincerely HOPE that PBO doesn't start a bargaining game to bring some pubs on board.

(3,596 posts)with usual participants on a local blog I will not hesitate to reinforce my pleasure at the outcome. I am always respectful whereas some of the other participants, not all, use terms like "libtards", "socialists", etc. for progressives and who were as early as today predicting a Robme landslide, I will not be able to withhold myself.
But you are right. We still face a Senate minority that, unless Reid "mans up" and changes the filibuster rules, will taunt and hold the nation hostage with the threat of a filibuster. We still face a House led by Boehner, who tonight said he will never go along with any form of revenue increase if that means a tax increase (the proverbial fiscal cliff), or someone else who might be even more intransigent.
I can only pray the Republicans realize the voters, contrary to what 2010 might have seemed, have decided to leave Democrats in control of the White House and the Senate. And that for them to have relevance they must demonstrate leadership and not obstructionism. But I think the Tea Party, the racist, homophobic, xenophobic haters, will continue to hold the House Republican caucus hostage.
So be prepared for more of the same. I wish it wasn't so.

(1,945 posts)I have to disagree.
They put forth the worst bigoted stuff they could come up with and Obama had to remain silent.
He can't speak, but I sure as hell can say these mf=ers were dead wrong. Their hate LOST by the barest of margins in a lot of states.
Our ideas of working together as equals WON. If that isn't something to shout out to the rooftops, I don't know what is.
Obama has to govern, but I have to live in the toxic soup Republicans have sowed.

And shop that tired old "Democrats must play nice" meme somewhere else, OK? It doesn't play very well around here, anymore. That's what winning a couple of national elections in an historical fashion will do to you.......
