What's Worse? Low-Information Voters or False-Information Voters?Because wincing is supposed to be good exercise, I occasionally tune-in the Rush Limbaugh Show. Today there was another substitute host for the lazy Rush. This guy kept tossing around the term low-information voter, a term I'd heard from fact-based sources to describe Republicans, but this host was apparently describing people who vote for Democrats.
This certainly wasn't the first time that a Republican pundit has copied a Democratic word or phrase and changed its meaning, so I wasn't all that surprised.
Then, when I thought about it, I realized that the listeners to dishonest conservative talk shows aren't really low-information voters, they're FALSE-INFORMATION VOTERS!
So here's the question: What is more harmful to democracy, low-information voters or false-information voters?

The false-information people would be nowhere if there weren't many more low-information people available to suck up the false information.
In both cases, people want to believe shit. The false information people are just a bit more motivated.

(2,237 posts)A lot of the false information voters are that way because they buy into lies people in the media are telling them, often guests on media shows or people in news stories. If the media did a better job debunking the lies their guests say and lies people believe in stories they report then people wouldn't be so misinformed.
But of course, it's too boring to the traditional news media to go "but congressman, your own slogan of cutting domestic spending and taxes and increasing defense spending makes it impossible to balance the budget, we've got the numbers to prove it". And it's also not good for business to correct the liars on one side of the aisle too often, even if the liars tend to be from the same side, since that'll get you labeled as biased against that political party.

(1,965 posts)Rush Limbaugh, who is the top producer of low / false information voters tries to pull this off. Rethugs constantly accuse Democrats of things that THEY do like rigging/ stealing elections, lying, etc and they get away with it.
There's a reason Rush and others of his ilk make mega millions every year. They're useful idiots for the oligarchy.
