(38,613 posts)For those too lazy to actually read the article:
Mr. Sanders contributed only sporadically. He interviewed a labor agitator and an old-time farmer, and he wrote some articles about health, including one in which he cited studies claiming that cancer could be caused by psychological factors such as unresolved hostility toward ones mother, a tendency to bury aggression beneath a facade of pleasantness and having too few orgasms.
Sexual adjustment seemed to be very poor in those with cancer of the cervix, he wrote, quoting a study in a journal called Psychosomatic Medicine

No, he didn't say it, but hey, honesty and integrity haven't been a part of our politics in my living memory, until BERNIE CAME ALONG.
I'm kicking this so people can see the quality of the Hillary campaign. The Politics of Personal Destruction, AGAIN.
No wonder Bernie has continued to bring out the crowds.
You know, if someone had posted this trashy OP about Hillary, I would not have asked 'did she really say that'? I would have assumed it was being totally distorted.
I wonder why you even asked that question ...
So many of these non issue posts coming from Hillary supporters. Very bad tactics, but hey, it helps my candidate so fine by me ...

(33,982 posts)I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I don't care if this is hidden because it'll stand as a monument anyway.
The day skinner told you hosts could do anything, including flagrantly violate their own SOP, you started treating any sort of dissent or even mild disagreement or the presence of a person you had a grudge against from another group, as a bannable offense.

(33,982 posts)If you followed this thread even casually, you should be able to see this is a history well beyond the HC group.
Any host of any group that lets meta and personal attacks stand on DU posters they don't like, and bans people they don't like on sight, probably should be called out for their behavior. If you know some like that in the Bernie group, go for it.

cui bono
(19,926 posts)But the truth must be told.
However I did lose complete respect for you when you intentionally edited a post of yours - OVER 20 MINUTES AFTER WE HAD BOTH REPLIED TO IT - in order to try and make me look wrong. That was despicable and so completely dishonest.

hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)cui bono

cui bono
(19,926 posts)I wouldn't. But you really have changed since you started supporting HRC and hosting that group.
I mean come on... you didn't even ask someone not to call Bernie a "flaming turd". You replied in that subthread so you knew the post was there. So yes, I doubt your sincerity. With good reason.
You really should go see how the Bernie Sanders group hosts, and members, behave. Anti-Hillary OPs/posts are locked or self-deleted by request. When people make an anti-Bernie comment they are warned that they are in the BSG, not banned immediately. They set a good example. I'm actually being sincere here although under the circumstances I'm sure you won't see it that way. I hope that you can see it though, and take it to heart.

(12,041 posts)You are a host of the Hillary group and you allowed a meta thread in which the author of this OP defends her vile hidden post near the top of this thread. The post had nothing to do with Hillary and was all about defending a vile post suggesting that Bernie was a Republican with his head between women's legs. You came to the defense of the person who made that vile post, but when Scootaloo showed up to link to the actual facts so people could see just how vile the post you were defending was you banned him from the group.
Now I understand that you are a safe haven group and you have the right to ban people who don't support Clinton. The problem is however that you allow people like the OP to violate your group's SOP and make posts that have absolutely nothing to do with supporting Hillary. You are providing a safe haven for people to spread these nasty smears and you ban anyone who challenges those smears.
I used to have a lot of respect for you because I felt that even when I disagreed with you you treated people with kindness. When I see you allowing a safe haven for people to defend this sort of nastiness without challenge despite the fact that it does not even have anything to do with Hillary it makes me lose a lot of respect I once had for you.

(10,565 posts)This: "you are providing a safe haven for people to spread these nasty smears and you ban anyone who challenges those smears." Yep.
There is so much Meta in the HRC group, and so many threads and posts that have absolutely nothing to do with supporting Hillary. Justin congratulates people in that group for getting 3 hides in one evening for calling other DUers "fucking assholes" and telling them to "eat shit".

Too bad the HC group hosts don't follow their lead and block meta and shit stirrers from their group.
It would certainly reflect better on their candidate and DU as a whole but I've come to realize that I have unrealistic expectations when it comes to the conduct of some of Hillary's supporters.
BainsBane
(53,093 posts)and you know what? The same situation applies: not your group, not your business. You aren't a member there, and you have nothing to say about the SOP of the group. But yeah, the alerts keep coming because the idea that anywhere in the universe someone might not treat Sanders with uncritical adoration is unacceptable to a few. I really don't see the point. It's not like it makes any bit of difference in the election if 15 people on DU refuse to go along with the crowd, but clearly it upsets some folks greatly.
As for not calling other supporters names, you have to know that isn't true. I myself don't read your group unless someone directs me to a particular post, but even so I have seen plenty of name calling. So don't even play that shit. The difference is some pretend calling people corporatists, Turd Way, sell outs, trolls, Republicans, and pawns of Wall Street actually amount to issues. I suppose for some that is as close to an issue as they will ever get.
I addressed the issue of the surveillance of the HRC group in this OP. http://www.democraticunderground.com/110711972
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)So you can stop with the paranoid persecution theories, skinner has already addressed this: if HC supporters don't want to have their posts deleted then they need to behave better.
What upsets me greatly is vindictive people who constantly vilify people they disagree with, BB - on both sides. Folks like you only see it when the other guys do it.
Hypocrites who complain that they're being targeted while doing the exact same thing to others piss me off.
And btw, I don't bash HC or her supporters, so my conscience is clean.
Obviously that upsets you greatly or you wouldn't personally attack me for calling out bad behaviour when I see it.
Especially in a thread like this, how can anyone possibly defend this kind of swift boat tactic against a Dem candidate?
At least other HC supporters have the integrity to call them out for it.
BainsBane
(53,093 posts)I wouldn't personally attack you? Where did I attack you? WTF?
This swift boat tactic? For YEARS on this site there has been a constant parade of false claims against Clinton. There is currently an OP falsely and completely distorting her comments on Iran. The false claims about her campaign finance circulate constantly. Some even rev up shit on Benghazi. Ben-fucking-Ghazi. No right-wing source or argument goes unturned in hunting up dirt on Hillary. Now Sanders happens to have written a stupid article ages ago. I don't believe it matters, but calling discussion of it swiftboating and pretending there is something unprecedented about it is unreal.
This is not the HRC group so if someone has called a Sanders supporter a name, I'm sure it will be hidden. They always are, even in the group. However, my guess is it is as much of an insult as my post was a personal attack on you. I don't even know you except for a thread or two where you clearly got upset and wouldn't explain why or how, except I realized in retrospect it was because I wasn't sufficiently reverential to Sanders and suggested that citizens actually have a right to ask questions of their candidates. God forbid. You certainly bashed me in that thread, yet you refused to engage with the substance of the thread at all. That is how I know you. As for what you say in the Sanders group, I have no idea. I have the group in the trash. I don't much care what is said there. Not my group, not my business.
Why even come after me about hosting HRC? I'm not a host of anything.
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)The hosts not only applaud and encourage it, they complain about the alerts that are sent and the jury results when such posts are hidden.
So it's okay when Hillary's supporters do the same thing?
Again, way to raise the bar for your candidate, BB. I'm glad some HC supporters are choosing to stick to the facts.
Smearing other candidates and their supporters in a protected group doesn't help her.
I applauded a post by Prism calling you out for using your own privilege to ignore the opinion of an AA poster who disagreed with you - that's why you remember me.
I'm one of many many DUers who thought he nailed it because we're tired of the ridiculous hyperbole and accusations from people who look for reasons to be outraged and who choose to use their voice to pit DUers against each other instead of trying to unite them.
But your personal attack on me claiming I took offense because you weren't "sufficiently reverential to Sanders" is both noted and completely expected.
I'm not "coming after" you for anything, I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of HC hosts complaining about the behaviour of others when they engage in much worse in their own group.
And doing so after defending the of swift boating of Bernie Sanders by a person who called him a "Republican" who "sticks his head between a woman's legs".
The irony is not lost on all of us.
BainsBane
(53,093 posts)and I don't read everything that goes on in there, so I cannot possibly claim there is no name calling, and I didn't. I addressed your assertion that no name calling goes on in the Sanders groups, clearly a false point.
You wish all articles that don't laud Sanders to be buried. Wish away. It's not going to happen, especially not if you expect him to become a serious contender for the nomination.
You claimed the criticism of Sanders was "unprecedented." I pointed out it is not unprecedented in fact it is overshadowed by a deluge of crap about Clinton. That illustrates your outrage to be entirely selective.
You called me a hypocrite for pointing out those facts. You feel attacked because someone on the internet dares to support a different candidate. Too bad. I don't give a shit. MY DEMOCRATIC CHOICE. You get one vote and one vote only. You don't get to control my vote or my thinking, and I will not pretend you are oppressed because someone posted an unflattering thread about Sanders.
I'm one of the many many DUers who thought he nailed it because we're tired of the ridiculous hyperbole and accusations from people who look for reasons to be outraged and who choose to use their voice to pit DUers against each other instead of trying to unite them.
Okay, this is ludicrous. My OP said that we will know who best speaks to the interests of the African American community by how they vote. That is dividing DUers? Discussing the fact that voters make their own decisions? And what are you doing right here but attacking the HRC group, and somehow holding me personally responsible for the actions of random Clinton supporters? How is that uniting? Does failure to support Sanders somehow make one not a DUer? Yet concern for the entire population of America, as opposed to the relatively affluent and far whiter population of DU doesn't? Calling people corporatists and Third Way isn't divisive? Pointing out that voters determine their own interests is? That entire notion that discussing race is divisive is a conservative argument, now gone mainstream among so-called progressives. I find it incredible. America is already divided. It always has been. It was built on division. Now Black people are being killed by police. Their churches being burned and racist massacres take place. But I dare mention AA voters and I'm "dividing" DUers by mentioning someone exists outside this site that might actually matter? I'm sure I divide DUers when I talk about sexism and my experiences with poverty too. All that nasty, "imaginary" stuff that people don't like to think about, as has been repeatedly pointed out to me. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025346527 http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025361657
Sorry I don't fit your proscribed box of who and what a DUer is supposed to care about. In fact, it would seem that the happenstance of my birth and the life experiences that came with it makes me something other than a real DUer.
Your memory of that thread is faulty. http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026739071
What I said is that black voters themselves will decide who best addresses their issues. That poster you reference then shouted privilege, as I have seen him respond to other members of the subaltern who post something he doesn't like. There was at that point no black poster in that thread. That member came later, after you had agreed with the poster you mention who also shouts "privilege" to members of color on this site, as was the case when a member of the AA group posted that her concerns for racism were not solved by attention to class issues alone. She was "privileged" for being black and middle class, whereas upper-middle class white posters get no such admonition. In another thread he made profane insults to the very AA member he claimed I was interfering with his communication with in my thread. Funny how its always feminists and people of color who are "privileged," despite the fact self-polling shows DUers have high incomes overall (way higher than mine). If we in the subaltern live, we dare not discuss our concerns because it might make our betters feel bad, and lord knows that is more important than poverty, violence, and certainly our right to make our own democratic choices.
Let me be clear: I do not care in the slightest who you or anyone else votes for. Unlike some, I don't feel a need to control how others vote. I consider that their choice entirely. I don't even worry about it. To each her own.
This discussion is enough for me to know I do not wish to have another again. I'm sorry it makes you so angry that I don't support your political hero. You'll just have to cope. Better get used to it because 85% of the Democratic electorate feels the same way.
beam me up scottie
(57,349 posts)Of course you only see what you want to see so the fact that you're blind to those attacks doesn't surprise me.
Why are you making up shit about me, BB? Not only do I not want articles buried, I actually welcome more stupid attacks on my candidate.
The desperation of HC supporters inspires me.
Where did I say that? I want the post and exact words where you got your quote from.
Dishonesty like lying about what I posted is what really outrages me.
I called the HC hosts hypocrites because they defended the op in their group and complained about how they're being "attacked" on DU. If you're feeling hypocritical too that's not on me.
I don't feel attacked at all, you're projecting.
And guess what? I don't care about your vote. I stopped caring somewhere between your first post months ago declaring you were voting for Hillary because you disliked Sanders supporters and before your last thread declaring you were voting for Hillary because voting for Bernie was "voting for white male rule" and calling his supporters "misogynists".
And it looks like the only people whining about oppression in this thread are HC supporters.
LMAO!!!
You really need to start reimbursing me for irony meters, BB.
Do you ever read your own posts?
You constantly attack others for not being equally outraged about every thing that offends you.
Free clue: YOU'RE DOING IT RIGHT FUCKING NOW:
Sorry, not all women and poc agree with you, BB and you really should find a better way to deal with it than atacking other DUers and questioning their dedication to minority causes. In case you haven't noticed it just generates more backlash against you.
You're not the only champion for the oppressed on DU and the people who disagree with you are not racists and misogynists. They just don't agree with you.
I am well aware of what's going on in my country, thank you.
I am aware of what poc think and feel because not only do I pay attention to their posts here (and elsewhere on the internet), I also discuss issues with poc irl and my s/o who is multi-racial.
So I don't need to peruse your many lectures and self righteous posts telling others that they don't care about poc because they don't agree with you or rec your threads.
I absolutely refuse to pay attention to someone claiming to speak for poc from a place of privilege who then dismisses the opinions of certain AA people because they don't share your opinion on a candidate.
So thanks so much for your attempts to speak for them, BB, but I'll look to actual poc for their opinions.
Strawman.
No one is trying to control votes.
Strawman, personal attack.
Making up shit about people makes DU suck, BB.
Don't flatter yourself, I could care less who you support. You've made it clear that you'll vote against a good liberal candidate just because he's a white man (you said "voting for Bernie Sanders is voting for white male rule" and the fact that you don't like his supporters.
Why would I waste my time trying to reason with someone who votes based upon gender, race and their hatred of other liberals?
Although people who won't vote for a candidate because of their race and gender usually come from the other side of the aisle, it's a shame to see the same kind of thinking on a Democratic website.
My vote is too important to me to use it as a weapon of revenge against people I dislike.
Women had to fight too goddamned hard for my right for me to abuse it in such a way.

(45,120 posts)If a supporter is arguing with other members over stupid crap and can't be civil I have no problem blocking them. If we are getting complaints about a supporter and screen caps where they are recommending posts about other candidates and then later removing their rec and sticking up for their supporters and arguing with Bernie supporters I have no problem blocking them. If a supporter starts shit in our group I have no problem blocking them. They can support Bernie elsewhere on DU if they have a problem adhering to the rules that make our group a safe haven for our other members. They can tell you that they were banned for no reason but that's bulldshit and they are to put it gently, stretching the truth. We don't block a member just because they say something we don't like. They are blocked because they are creating a problem with the other members, we put a lot of thought into it and we know who the problem posters are and we watch them.
You don't need to wonder anymore. Now you know.
And here's what you weren't wondering about.
If a Bernie supporter starts an OP in the Bernie Sanders group trashing another candidates supporters we hosts in the Bernie Sanders group have no problem locking that OP, unlike other candidates groups. If a Member posts a nasty OP smearing another candidate in the Bernie Sanders group we hosts in the Bernie Sanders group have no problem locking that OP. And if a member comes into our group complaining their post was hidden and lying about what they did we hosts in the Bernie Sanders group would have no problem locking that that OP.

...
Here is a post I made in there to point out their blatant hypocrisy, the OP is priceless, you can't make that shit up. You can only believe it by seeing it with your own eyes.
Okay, wait... so you want to 'tattle' on Bernie supporters of DU?
You were the one calling Bernie supporters childish all over another thread.
Now, before I continue, I saw this OP on the Greatest Page so that's why I clicked on it. I did not come into the group looking for trouble.
I'll tell you something I see in here though. In the top 8 posts of this Hillary group are two that are complaining about Bernie supporters, this one plotting against them.
In the entire first page of posts in the Bernie group you don't find anything similar at all, they are all about Bernie himself, or something to do with him, but certainly not about Hillary supporters.
A couple weeks ago (I think around then) there was a negative post about Hillary supporters and it was locked and self-deleted and several Bernie supporters, myself included, asked in the OP (and I sent a pm to a host asking for the OP to be deleted/locked) to not do that. As I said, the OP was locked and self-deleted.
I realize the whole Bernie supporters are mean and childish is the new thing on DU, but we are not plotting as a group against Hillary supporters like this OP is. And when there was a negative post about Hillary supporters it was taken down due to the dislike of it, it was not cheered on as this OP is, or the one about Ghadaffi is. We aren't looking at this as a war between supporters as this group seems to based on these two well regarded OPs.
Also, I have had a personal experience with a very active Hillary supporter where they edited a post well after I had replied and they had replied to me again. It was a very dishonest thing to do, editing a post to make it seem that my response was completely wrong. I don't attribute that to all Hillary supporters though. I look at people based on their posts and actions on DU.
How about you do the same and worry about your own OPs and posts and don't look at this as a war between supporters and use this group to plot against the 'others'. To ask what you guys keep asking Bernie supporters.. is this the way you think Hillary would want you to act?
But gee.... it's Bernie supporters who are sooooo mean.... WAAAAHHHHH...

(16,376 posts)He connected a number of diseases and death to the stress of working 9-5 in an office. He related his view of how working in New York was often deadening, leading to:
The piece began with an apocalyptically alarmist account of the unbearable horror of having an office job in New York City, of being among the mass of hot dazed humanity heading uptown for the 9-5, sentenced to endless days of moron work, monotonous work.
It's only gotten worse since then, as extreme overwork has become part of the deadening Bernie described, and many studies have confirmed the linkages he noted in the early 70's.
Lack of orgasm isn't noted. Sexual deadening is, and that doesn't generally equate with sexual deadening, which is more likely to translate into the reduction or loss of desire.

(6,409 posts)Many candidates have a history of saying and doing things not necessarily consistent with what they say and do now. It appears Sanders has been reasonably consistent over the years. His path through life is somewhat similar to that of our current president. I would find it far more disturbing if he had been a fiery Ayn Rand fanatic, then suddenly flopped 180 degrees and become a socialist. The general direction of the article is that Sanders still clings to old ideas that went out fashion with long hair and bell bottoms, which makes him some kind of crusty socialist anachronism. I guess that's true. Politicians who stick to their principles and reject the usual compromises are rare, and many people find them a little scary. If there were more like Sanders, it would be easier for him, as well as better for us.

She has has collaborated with congressional conservatives on some peices of legislation, called for a "common ground" on abortion and cut a political figure some on the left see as decidedly un-liberal.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you our champion on women's rights!
Standard DLC policy: give up the fight for economic justice so Democrats can compete against Republicans in fund raising, then compromise on social justice to expand the Democratic base. Hillary made a fine President of the DLC, but the last thing we should want is her as President of the USA.
